Audi India, which launched its Audi Q7 SUV last year, plans to introduce an 8-speed automatic transmission to all its variants available. Q7 has been a benchmark SUV in India ever since its launch and has raised the bar of SUV in its segment. Introduction of the 8-speed automatic transmission is sure to raise the bar even further, since it has a broader spread of ratios which would help the engine to operate in ideal operating point thereby increasing the optimum efficiency.

It is touted that the fuel efficiency would increase by about 5%. This is possible because of the additional friction clutch plate, in addition, the torque converter lockup shift helps to eliminate slip at low speeds. There is an 8-speed tiptronic transmission which transmits power (developed by the V6 & V8 engines) to the Quattro permanent all-wheel drive train. This helps in dividing the power into two parts, out of which 40% is used by front wheels and rest 60% by the rear wheels.

The new Q7 8-Speed AT is bound to give tough time to its competitors of the same segment since this new AT version is sure to be an attractor on-road. Adding more to that, all variants of Q7 will be having 8-Speed AT transmission.
