Honda HR-V Coming to India

With the exception of the City sedan, Honda’s other products have been facing a tough time in the Indian market. Even the City has had to fight hard with the Maruti Ciaz. New products like the BR-V have been unable to meet expectations in terms of sales. However, in the coming 12-18 months, Honda plans to bring popular products from its international portfolio to India including the Civic, CR-V and the HR-V. The HR-V small SUV will sit above the BR-V and cost around Rs. 14-18 lakh. Expect the Honda HRV India launch to take place by the end of 2017.

Honda HRV Price in India

Model Name Estimated Ex-Showroom Price
Honda HR-V Base Model Rs. 14 lakh
Honda HR-V Top Model Rs. 18 lakh

The upcoming SUV from Honda will slot in above the BR-V and the Hyundai Creta. It will cost a bit more, around Rs. 14-18 lakh. Although similar in size to the Creta, it will be marketed as a more premium offering. The upcoming Renault Kaptur could turn out to be one of its biggest rivals in India.

Honda HRV India Specifications

  Petrol Diesel
Engine 1.5 L Petrol 1.5 L Diesel
Power 130 PS 100 PS
Torque 155 Nm 200 Nm
Transmission 6-speed Manual/CVT 6-speed Manual

In all probability, the HR-V will get the same engines as the Honda City. In the UK, the HR-V gets a 1.5 L petrol and a 1.6 L Diesel. However, for India, the Diesel engine is likely to be the 1.5 L unit that powers every Honda diesel car in India. Keeping the slightly higher price of the Honda HR-V in mind, Honda might consider launching the HRV small SUV with a 1.8 L petrol engine that will also power the upcoming Honda Civic. This engine makes about 135 BHP and 170 Nm.

Honda HRV India – Exterior Design

The Honda HR-V or Vezel made its debut in 2013 at the Tokyo Motor Show. It is based on the 2013 Honda Urban SUV concept. It features sleek headlamps with projector units and LED daytime running lamps. The thick slab housing the Honda logo gets a chrome strip running through the middle. For the Indian market, the entire slab could come finished in chrome. The side profile is characterised by body cladding for the wheels arches and a sloping roofline. Much like the Chevrolet Beat, the rear door handle is mounted high right next to the rear window. At the back, there are split tail lamps that could feature LED detailing. While the overall design is smart, the tail lights do look a tad oversized. While it is not big in terms of appearance, it will be more expensive than the similarly sized Hyundai Creta.

Honda HRV India – Interior Design

The HRV’s interior features typical Honda elements. The steering wheel is quite similar to Honda products currently on sale in India. So is the instrument cluster and the touch sensitive auto aircon setup. Expect the HR-V to feature Honda’s 7 inch Digipad infotainment system currently available on the WR-V and City. The passenger side of the dashboard gets a unique three vent setup. Unlike the BR-V, the HR-V will only feature seating for 5 occupants. The HR-V boasts 393 litres of boot space.

Honda HR V Engine and Transmission Options

The HR-V could come with the same engine options as the Honda City – 1.5 L Petrol and 1.5 L Diesel. The petrol will get automatic and manual transmission options. While the diesel will be manual only. Also on offer could a bigger 1.8 L petrol that will power the upcoming Civic sedan. More details on the specifications of the upcoming Honda HRV in India as we get them. While the UK-spec HR-V gets a 1.6 L diesel, India is unlikely to get that engine.

  1. Yes, it will be hit like city. I have been waiting for last 2 years. Hope they launch it this year.. otherwise CHR.

  2. It will be successful if it will launch in Diesel automatic transmission…. But if Honda don’t provide diesel engines with automatic transmission… This will be great mistake.. This segment and price slot need to be Diesel automatic transmission like creata. Etc… Or customers will loose their trust in Honda… Forever.. Honda must come up with diesel automatic transmission technology at the immediate now..

  3. Definitely Honda HRV will hit market sell of creta, as all dimensions comparing same .
But there should be 1.6 lit diesel engine is also gives more power. We should waiting for this suv

  4. Yes of course it will be a great success for honda with hrv however just for a jump start it should be launched below creta in terms of price

  5. Why Honda is taking too much time to launch HRV ? They should check the popularity of SUV in india . They should phase out BRV n reduce the price of WRV . Honda HRV price shoul match Hyundai Creta. I m confident that Once Honda HRV will break all the records set by Hyundai Creta.
