The Hyundai Tucson is all set to kick off its second innings in India. And once again, one of its chief rivals will be the Honda CR-V. With the Tucson, Hyundai aims to plug the gap between the Creta and the Santa Fe SUVs. It will come with both petrol and diesel engine options with prices starting below the 20 lakh mark. Currently, this particular segment has very few options. Its rivals include Honda CR-V and Skoda Yeti. In our Hyundai Tucson vs Honda CRV post here we will compare the two on the basis of price, specifications, features and more.
Hyundai Tucson vs Honda CRV Price Comparison in India
(estimated ex-showroom Delhi price)
(ex-showroom Delhi Price)
|Price Range||Rs. 18-23 lakh||Rs. 22.23-26.37 lakh|
With prices likely to start at around 18 lakhs for the base petrol variant in India, the new Hyundai Tucson looks set to undercut the Honda CR-V by a considerable margin. Available only with a petrol engine option, the Honda CRV is priced in the Rs. 22.23-26.37 lakh range. Honda will find it difficult to justify the huge price gap.
Hyundai Tucson vs Honda CRV – Exterior Design
The design of the Hyundai Tucson follows the manufacturer’s Fluidic Design language. And like most modern Hyundais, this one is a good looking car as well. Sleek headlamps with projector units flank a hexagonal grille. Fog lamps and LED daytime running lamps are placed in the bumper below. The side features thick body cladding and a rising window line. At the back, there are split tail lamps that will get LED detailing on the top-end trims. Even though the CR-V has been around for a few years now, it isn’t exactly a familiar face as there are very few of them on the road. It looks a soft roader and doesn’t have the butch appeal of an SUV that Indians like so much. The steeply raked windshield gives the rear end an interesting look. The 2015 model CR-V never made it to India.
Hyundai Tucson vs Honda CRV – Interior
The cabin of the Tucson isn’t as eye-catching as the exterior. That said, the dashboard looks classy with a neat layout. The simple design is a reflection of Hyundai’s current design philosophy. The India-spec Tucson could feature a black-beige colour combination, leather wrapped steering, leather seats, etc. The CR-V’s dashboard comes finished in dark materials. Its design is very simple, but looks fairly modern. Top-end variant gets a touchscreen infotainment system.
Hyundai Tucson vs Honda CRV Features Comparison
Like most Hyundai products, the new Tucson will also be a feature rich offering. It will get features like electric adjust for the driver’s seat, sunroof, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps, etc. Top-end variants will feature 6 airbags, hill start assist, ventilated seats. Key features of the Honda CR-V include push button start. 8-way electric adjust for driver’s seat, rear AC vents, dual zone climate control.

We’re not sure about the Hyundai Tuscon’s engine lineup yet. According to sources, it will get 2.0 L Petrol and 2.0 L Diesel engines. Both engines will feature both automatic and manual transmission options. However, it might also end up sharing engines with the new Elantra sedan. In that case, it will get a smaller 1.6 L Diesel, which is the same one that powers the Verna and Creta. While the Honda CRV does not get a diesel engine option, it gets a couple of petrol engines. The bigger 2.4 L petrol is reserved for the AWD variant. Hyundai Tucson will also get an optional all-wheel drive system.

On paper, Hyundai Tucson seems like a very good urban SUV. Its got great looks, and is expected to get a long list of features. Prices are likely to start well below the 20 lakh mark, which will give it a huge advantage over the CR-V. The ageing CRV suffers from the lack of a diesel engine option. Also, top-end variants cost as much as the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, which means it doesn’t score well on the VFM front.
