Maruti Baleno RS vs Volkswagen Polo GT Design Comparison – Exterior

There are subtle differences between the exteriors of the standard Polo and the GT variants. These include GT badging on the grille, black ORVMs and black rear spoiler. Also, there is ‘GT’ badging on the C-pillars and boot lid. Apart from that, the Polo GT is the same smart looking European hatchback that has been around for a while now. The Volkswagen Polo GT is already quite popular amongst those looking for that little bit of extra performance from their standard hatchback. We will have to wait and see if these buyers move away from the trusted Polo GT towards the newbie that is the Maruti Baleno RS. A lot of it comes down to the price.

  • Price – The Baleno RS is slightly cheaper than the Polo. However, the Polo comes with an excellent 7 speed DSG auto ‘box as standard.

  1. Most comparisons we see relate to price, fuel economy, features & power. Agreed these matter to most cost conscious buyers; however, it would be nice to include safety (not just airbags, but ncap test results, ABS, EBD, TCS etc) as an important parameter too. After all, life is more valuable than a few thousand rupees, especially in Indian conditions

  2. POLO GT TSI without a second thought is a best buy than Balerno RS.Marutimanufactur can not compit with the German in terms of safety quality and comfort.
Maruti has a competition only with Korean manufacturer like Hyundai.
Quality of Baleno is worst cheep than POLO GT.
POLO GT is more powerful than Baleno RS.
POLO GT is more stable than Baleno at high speed.
Looks of POLO GT is more decent than Baleno.
Baleno is not a worth to spend 10lakh.
Only a fool can spend 10lakh for a manual quality compromised hatch like Baleno RS.

  3. Seriously Maruti is trying to milk the Indian customers with their tin boxes…The Baleno is nowhere comparable to the build quality of Polo. On top of that the Polo GT gets crucial features like the 7-speed DSG Auto, cruise control etc. which makes it a huge value buy with safety to hoot….Maruti has bungled up bigtime in pricing the RS so close to the vastly superior GT. Expecting a price revision downward or atleast improving the feature list with automatic for similar price

  4. Hi,

I had driven both vehicles over the weekend(11th March).
    1. Power – DSG AT makes Polo exciting to drive with better power
    2. Suspension – both are good and Polo also launched with 16″ alloy
    3. Safety and stability – German engineering scores high ….with weight at 1100 kg+, crash test score – 4+, ESP
    4. Open car bonnet and observe:
    a. Baleno RS: Plastic used on top of engine, wire routing in connecting components and insulation materials are of poor quality. ….Highly skilled house hold electrician might do better job.
    b. Polo GT: Quality personified.

My verdict: Polo GT TSI scores high!!
