At the Auto Expo, Maruti announced that the Ignis and the Baleno RS will arrive in showrooms during the 2016 festive season. However, both launches fell behind schedule. A major reason for that was the high demand for other Maruti products such as the Baleno and Brezza. Maruti delayed the launch in order to give themselves enough time to clear some of the backlog.

Maruti Ignis Design Review

The Suzuki Ignis was first unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It is among the newest of Suzuki’s ideas for the compact SUV and crossover segments. The Ignis previews the manufacturer’s upcoming compact 4×4 and the car’s design boasts uniqueness and Suzuki’s DNA. The car’s theme is “Shape the Inspiration”. Basically, the upcoming Maruti Ignis is a highly personal vehicle that opens gates to new possibilities to have fun. In words of Suzuki, the Ignis is “intelligent but tough, offering reliable performance rooted in the Suzuki 4×4 tradition coupled with the latest fuel-saving technology. The minimalist design blends perfectly into the driver’s lifestyle, while its distinctive character brings real inspiration to the daily routine.”

The Ignis has a high ground clearance and a high hip point. This will ensure that this car is easy to drive in tough road conditions. On the inside, it has a user-friendly interior and a large luggage area. The car’s minimalist body boasts plain surfaces and a round-ish roof, with straight lines that make the design more attractive. The large wheels, pushed to the corners of the vehicle, go on to hint at this SUV’s muscular performance and give it a dynamic stance. Then there are some more dramatic design features such as the ‘sunglass-clad’ look of the front fascia, helmet-like roof and the vents on the C Pillar, which are inspired by older models from Suzuki.

maruti-ignis-india-preview-images (4)

On the inside, the Ignis gets a combination of light and dark surfaces. Its dashboard design is unlike anything we have seen from Maruti Suzuki till date. Since it is sold through the Nexa sales network, the Ignis gets a slew of premium features. The Ignis features Maruti’s SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system. This system features a special HMI (Human Machine Interface), smartphone connectivity and navigation features. It also boasts Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and voice-recognition function. This system is currently available on Baleno, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza. All this will take the Maruti Ignis price to above 7 lakhs but only for the fully loaded models.

Maruti Ignis Engine and Transmission

Tthe Ignis shares its engines with the Baleno/Swift/Dzire. It gets a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.3 litre diesel. Interestingly, both engine options are available with a 5-speed AMT, apart from the standard 5-speed manual. The specifications, in terms of power and torque figures, are the same as the Baleno/Swift/Dzire.

  6. Hi to all
As I guess on ignis, delta verson (Mid) of petrol will come around 6,70,000/- (on road), where as diesel verson of delta will be around 8,05,000/-(on road)…. May be highend version will be around 9,50,000/-, it may be come mix with ( SHVS) hybrid technology, DRL, infotainment technology, etc….. May company keep the position of Ignis under Baleno… As all specifications of ignis was under (lesser then)the baleno, except ground clearance and SUV ‘s DNA……

  10. I have taken the test drive of Baleno, but found ground clearance is not good enough of 170 mm, and the same swift engine hence can’t decide till Ignis lunched, as I belongs to Hill from Sikkim so need ground cleaners of at list 180 mm with 4 cylinder engine. I come to conclude whether ignis or Baleno pls. suggest

  11. I am Impressed with Vitara Design since Available in Diesel Only my Usage only 400 KM in a Month , Should I Wait for Vitara Petrol Version Experts Pls Suggest.

  12. Yes, the Vitara Petrol should be out by the end of the current financial year. Waiting could be a good idea if you don’t require a new car at the earliest.

    Regards

  14. The concept car looks good. By the time it gets modified and comes to Indian market. It might look like a piece of crap.

  15. Have to be said – the rear of the car is hideous to say the least!!! Rest of the car, great clean design. Freshness abound in the interiors. The front and the interiors look inspired by the VW UP! but that’s not a bad thing at all!

  16. What shall be the cost of ownership for 5 years for petrol & diesal variants if monthly running is about 1000 kms. Thanks

  17. Why is Alpha Suv is waiting such a beautiful model which people are waiting for ? Since Murathi is having biggest shares in the market. Why can’t Maruti give best car with lowest price where people are offeredable ?….

  18. Ignis… Ignis…..Ignis…… Waiting for such a long period is getting irritation…… No clarity on launch, some one saying on or after festival… Another one saying in 2017…..
Will you pl clarify on launch?

  19. May i know which will be better among tata nexon and maruti ignis? My requirements are good ground clearance atleast 190mm as i stay in hilly area of sikkim. Preferably 4 cylinder engine, good boot volume and spacious 5 seats. 3 cylinder suvs arent a good taste for hilly regions

  20. Hi Puran,
Both of these haven’t been launched yet so we can’t be too sure before driving them. But from the looks of it, the Ignis will meet all your requirements. The Nexon is still some time away from launch and hence, finer details are unavailable at the moment.

    Regards
