Maruti was very aggressive with the pricing of the Baleno hatchback and we expect them to adopt a similar strategy for the Ignis. Prices mentioned above (Maruti Ignis) are estimated figures. Actual pricing could vary. Our guess is that the upcoming Maruti Ignis will cost slightly more than the Ritz. Top end variants will be considerably more expensive as they will carry more features.

Maruti Ignis vs Ritz Design Comparison – Exterior

The production-spec Ignis will not be too different from the what we saw at the Auto Expo. Bits like the big, chrome lined grille housing the headlamps, LED daytime running lights, etc. should help enhance the Ignis’ style quotient. Body cladding, roof rails and a high ground clearance will help convince people its an SUV. The Ritz’s exterior has a bit of love it or hate it thing going on. There were many who did not like the odd ball rear end. Since its launch in the market, the Ritz received only one minor facelift.

Maruti Ignis vs Ritz – Interior

Like the exteriors, the interiors of the Ritz have started showing their age. Still, it features a pretty interesting dashboard design with bits like the tacho being a stand out features. The interiors of the Ritz can be had with a red black combination. As for the Ignis, the cabin looks very modern with interesting design touches all around. Body coloured highlights seen in the picture above could be offered as an option.

Maruti Ignis vs Ritz Comparison – Verdict

While we’re not sure whether the Ignis will replace the Ritz or will be sold alongside, we’re certain it will take buyers away from the Ritz. It is, arguably, better looking, it carries more in terms of equipment and has the SUV appeal Indians so badly crave these days.

  • Price – Maruti is expected to price the Ignis around the same region as the Ritz. However, top end variants will surely be more expensive thanks to a longer list of features.
  • Specifications – Powering the Ignis are the same petrol and diesel engines that power the Ritz. However, Ignis automatic will get a 5-speed AMT, unlike the Ritz’s 4-speed torque converter.
  • Features – The Ritz misses out on certain features that are considered premium such as auto aircon, touchscreen AVN. Ignis will come loaded with features.
  • Design – The Ignis is definitely a very eye-catching design. The Indian car buying lot always had a mixed opinion on the Ritz’s design. Plus, it has started showing its age now.
