Maruti Suzuki India did not have a much of a joyous Diwali this year in terms of sales numbers as the cars sales by Maruti Suzuki India Limited declined by over 50% for both domestic as well as export sales. Apart from the slowdown in automobile industry in India and global slowdown in the economy, labour unrest at Maruti Plant for over a month has been the key reasons behind this sharp decline in sales.
In the month of October 2011, Maruti Suzuki Sold 55,595 cars out of which 4137 units were exported and other 51458 were domestic sales within India. The domestic sales in India saw a drop of about 52.2 % with the most suffering cars being the Maruti SX4 (83.8% Drop) and Compact segment cars including Maruti Swift, Maruti Zen Estilo, and Maruti Ritz which combined took a hit in sales by 56.1 % Year-On-Year basis for the month of October 2011.
