It’s not secret KTM is working on new generation models of the Duke series. After numerous videos and spy shots of the 390 Duke, new images of the 200 Duke have surfaced online. Both new KTM models are going to make their debut at EICMA in Milan in November 2016. Since the KTM 200 Duke is manufactured in India, it shouldn’t be long before they make it to Indian showrooms. Our guess is that the new 2017 KTM Duke 200 India launch will take place in early 2017. Read our story here for more info on the new 2017 KTM 200 Duke India launch, specifications, price and more.

Overdrive has managed snap pictures of a nearly production-ready prototype of the KTM 200 Duke. Earlier, images of the 390 Duke had surfaced online showing quite a few of the new bike’s features. The new 2017 KTM Duke 200 India launch date could fall in the first quarter of 2017. KTM will unveil the bike at the EICMA 2016 that will take place between 8 and 13 November 2016 in Milan.
In an interesting development, KTM seems to have halted the production of the 200 Duke at their facility in Chakan. Also, KTM reported sales of zero units of the Duke 200 during October 2016. The bike does not figure on KTM’s official web page either. The only logical explanation we can come up with is that KTM is preparing to launch the bike in India soon.

While the upcoming KTM Duke 200 will get the same 200cc engine as the current model, it will not be in the exact same state of tune. Thanks to stringent Euro IV norms, KTM will have to use a larger exhaust system and make other modifications. Power and torque output could witness a slight increase in order to offset the weight gain. New additions to the bike will include a new subframe and a new exhaust system to comply with Euro IV regulations. Hopefully, KTM will add ABS as an option to the Duke 200. Again, the number mentioned above are just estimated figures. Actual figures will vary.
New 2017 KTM Duke 200 India – Mileage
|Model Name||Estimated Mileage|
|2017 KTM Duke 200||35 km/l|
The current model 200 Duke delivers 35 KMPL overall. We’re expecting the new model to be slightly more fuel efficient. It could easily return 40 KMPL under test conditions.
2017 KTM Duke 200 Design
The design of the upcoming 2017 model is an evolution of KTM’s current design language. It retains the sharp creases and aggressive lines. It will look quite a bit like a smaller version of KTM 1290 Super Duke R. While the headlamp profile of the 2017 MY Duke 390 and the 200 is similar, the latter will get a conventional bulb setup instead of a full LED setup. Also, we’re not sure if it will feature LED pilot lamps or not. There will be other new design elements including a new, sculpted fuel tank, new tail lamps and possibly more colour schemes. Design highlights of the upcoming new 2017 KTM 200 Duke include –
- Sharper headlamp console
- New canister type exhaust
- Fuel tank mounted ignition key
- Reshaped pillion seat
- Integrated grab rail for pillion
As always, Bajaj will manufacture the upcoming Duke 200 at their facility in Chakan near Pune. The high levels of localization will help keep costs in check. Bajaj has benefitted a lot from this alliance with KTM and so has the Austrian bike manufacturer.
2017 KTM Duke 390 Features
- Conventional bulb headlamp
- Sharper new generation styling
- LED turn indicators
- Exposed frame
- LED pilot lamps
- New fuel tank design
- Conventional instrument panel
- Full metal fuel tank
Unlike the Duke 390, the smaller Duke will not get the new LCD instrument panel. However, the current digital instrument console could get an update. According to reports, this new KTM will feature a full metal fuel tank. This will make it easier for riders to mount magnetic bags. The Duke 200 also misses out on LED headlamps.
