The Renault Kwid has been very successful in garnering a positive response from the entry level car buyers. No, the Entry A segment hatchback is far from becoming a segment leader on the sales charts, but one simply can’t shy away from the fact that the Kwid has left a sizable dent on the Maruti Alto‘s sales. Thanks to a SUV-like styling, a spacious cabin, a considerably frugal engine and a competitive price tag, the Kwid seems to have it all! On an average, Renault sold over 8,000 units of the Kwid every month, last year. No surprise, then, that the Kwid has Maruti worried. Hence, in order to reclaim the lost ground, Maruti is readying a new small car that will become a direct rival to the Kwid. This new Maruti small car will make its public debut at the 2018 Auto Expo.

It will target prospective customers of the Kwid by offering a similar SUV-ish design and a high ground clearance. The upcoming small car could borrow design cues from the Suzuki Crosshiker concept shown earlier. Details at this stage are scarce but we expect the car to share its engines with the Alto.
