The car is the brand’s first compact SUV and its first generation was a huge success with sales figures of more than 6,00,000 units worldwide and looking upto it Audi also developed the Audi Q5,which is quite known worldwide and to the Indian automobile industry as well.

The new X3 will be launched during the first quarter of the year 2011 which is the same phase when the company will start the local assembly of BMW X1.  The car will soon the market and probably give the Q5 a run for its money. The car’s technical specifications are not available yet but we assume it to be near to previous model whose details are given below.

Price Of BMW X3

Since the car is supposed to compete with the Q5 then we expect it to come under a price tag between Rs. 35 Lakh to Rs. 45 Lakh.

Price Of 2011 BMW 5-Series

The new 5-series will come in 4 variants and will be priced between Rs 38.9 lakh to Rs 58 lakh(Ex-showroom Delhi)

According to a study conducted by the United Nations after a decade or two the scenario of the cities will worsen with nearly 5 billion people(Estimated one megacity population by 2030) on the roads and no space for driving cars and to overcome these problems in the future the designers have started working on vehicles which are built better,require low space and are affordable for the masses.

Starting the race is GM, who some time back showcased the EN-V followed by Ford START Concept and now BMW has presented the preliminary sketches of its concept called the BMW Mega City Vehicle(MCV).

Adrian van Hooydonk, director of BMW Group Design said that its the technology and material they are using to bring it to reality and the aim is to build a sustainable yet premium car.Mr. van Hooydonk added,“They are highly emotional, with refined materials and high level of attention to detail. But there was a belief that premium and sustainable could not go together.”

They have assembled a special group 15 designers comprising of exterior and interior designers together with the engineers in order to complete the project in a short time.The team leader is Mr.Benoit Jacob, a French designer who designed a successful small car,Dacia Logan when working with Renault and now works for BMW.

The design team has used CRPF(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) since it is very light and can translate easily into a design as steel does.Mr. van Hooydonk said “It is sometimes hard for designers to get their heads around the change.The chance to work on such a new formula is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,”

General Specifications Of BMW Mega City Vehicle

The vehicle is a zero-emission one and accommodates four passengers. It would be a rear-wheel drive car generating a maximum power of 150 hp (112 kW / 152 PS) through an electric motor powered by a 35 kWh lithium-ion battery. According to BMW this vehicle will deliver a mileage of at least 100 miles (161 km) along with a top speed of 95 mph (153 km/hr).

BMW also has plans to launch two more variants by 2015 and 2017 which will be known as ICV (Intra-city Vehicle) and UCV (Urban Commuter Vehicle).While the ICV will be a two door product accommodating 2 passengers, the UCV will get a longer wheelbase,four doors accommodating 5 passengers.

With no official technical details available for the car, only the design part is what we could comment on.The car is a blend of the exclusiveness of the BMW Gran Turismo and and attractiveness of a high performance car and making it more special is the space offered, accommodating four passengers instead of the two in conventional coupes.

• The car looks very sporty with highest levels of dynamic performance and what makes it more aggressive are the body lines stretching till the rear of the vehicle.
• Dimension wise the car is nearly 5 meters in length and if considered the height it falls just under 1.40 meters, invariably reinforcing the coupe design characteristics along with making it 100 mm flatter than the BMW 5-Series or the BMW 7-Series.
• From the front the traditional BMW kidney Grille looks a bit flat pointing at the detailing that the designers have brought and complementing it are the big air inlets running towards the sides and the LED headlamps.
• The rear incorporates a much slimmer look with the L-shaped tail lamps and tailpipes making it look elegant and the third brake light which is positioned in the rear window, features LED technology and illuminates the entire width of the window.

The latest offering from BMW will be launched with three CRDI diesel engines and four MPFI petrol engines. The diesel-model includes the 520d (fitted with a four-cylinder 2.0 L engine) and also 525d & 530d (both of which have a six-cylinder 3.0 L engine). Petrol variants include 523i, 528i & 535i, all of which are powered by a six-cylinder, except the top-of-the-class 550i which is powered by a 4.4 L, 407 horsepower, V8 engine. All the variants have standard 6-speed manual transmission while the 550i has an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The new BMW 5-series is sure to give a tough time to the Mercedes E-Class, which has taken full advantage by launching its new and improved version in India before BMW. The price of the new BMW 5 Series is not officially announced, but its expected to be priced between Rs. 40 Lakh to Rs. 55 Lakh for various variants in this series.

Kronschnabl said “The first showroom will be opened in Chennai in April and the next one in Gurgaon in the third quarter of the year,” and added that for 2010 these will be the only pre-owned cars outlet. The existing dealer network will prove to be a medium for the company to leverage the new business and the dealership network is also expected to reach 24 from 17 by this year.

“We are looking at selling 300 pre-owned cars in the first year. We will encourage our dealers to trade in used cars of other brands as well,” said . According to BMW after the establishment of the new concept as mush as 30% of the total sales for the company will come from it.

“Most banks charge a premium of 5% for a used car. Our rates will be close to those for new cars,” says Kronschnabl pointing at the ease with which they wish to make finance available to its customers.”We should start operations by mid-2010 and people interested in buying other brands are also welcome,” added the same.

BMW Financial Services in association with Bajaj Allianz seek to offer retail finance to its customers, commercial finance to its dealers along with insurance facilities.

The new 2011 335is also belongs to the sixth generation 3-Series and will be made available in coupe as well as folding hardtop convertible.
