Mahindra & Mahindra, one of the fastest emerging car maker and the new owner of REVA, showcased the Reva NXR electric small car and Mahindra Verito electric sedan at the 2012 Auto Expo. Though not very attractive, both these cars define practicality and were impressive in a way. Chevrolet Volt Electric Car’s Battery Pack To Be Redesigned After Reported Fire Accidents

A while back we came to know about Chevrolet Volt hybrid car catching fire three weeks after routine crash tests. US federal authorities immediately started investing the matter to figure out the loop holes in handling and safety of lithium ion batteries. The agency NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) questioned each of the leading electric vehicle manufacturers to put in their suggestion to further mitigate such risks. In defense, General Motors quickly responded saying Volt is a safe car but now the latest news is that the Chevrolet is going to redesign the battery pack. image- Chevrolet Volt Alongside the company is cooperating with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in its investigation and also reassures its 6400 Volt owners. Maruti Suzuki Electric Cars To Come Soon In India

Electric vehicles are the next big thing in the auto industry and are growing at a satisfactory pace. Yesterday we had covered Honda EV-STER which is a new small electric sports car concept from the major and today another news comes floating over the internet under the same category. Suzuki, another Japanese major, is planning to introduce electric cars in India under the brand name Maruti Suzuki. They know it well that the current infrastructure is not supportive enough for electric cars but since the government and other companies are helping promote the same, the scenario is expected to change soon. As of now only Mahindra REVA sells pure electric cars in India. A couple of Hybrid cars such as Honda Civic Hybrid and Toyota Prius were also launched, but owing to the high pricing they could not attract enough buyers. Honda EV-STER Electric Sports Concept Car Unveiled At 2011 Tokyo Motor Show

Electric vehicles are the next most promising vehicles globally as the electric technology contains a lot of potential. Although electric car manufacturers have done a wonderful job by coming up with new cars, the fact remains that they are not as widely accepted as petrol and diesel cars. Honda, at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, has unveiled an all new electric sports car concept called as Honda EV-STER. The fundamentals of design and concept are quite similar to that of Tesla Roadster(another leading electric car from Tesla) but the cars are a bit dissimilar. As per the claims made by Honda, EV-STER has a full charge range of 100 miles only but the 0-100 km/h acceleration is generous at 5 seconds. The body is made up of carbon fiber and the overall styling is very much influenced by Honda CR-Z but with a heavy dose of futuristic design. Chevrolet Volt Catches Fire After Crash Test- USA Govt. To Investigate Lithium-ion Batteries

For long, car companies are concentrating on electric vehicles and one of the most successful car of them all is the popular Chevrolet Volt. Ever since its launch the car proved to be one of the best looking and best performing vehicle but recently, one accident has forced the US govt. to raise its finger on the electrical technology it equips. First Electric Vehicle Wireless Charging Trial Announced for London

Qualcomm announced the first Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging (WEVC) trial for London in what is a UK and industry-leading initiative. Qualcomm is collaborating with the UK Government, as well as the Mayor of London’s office and Transport for London (TfL) to deliver the trial. The pre-commercial trial is expected to start in early 2012 and will involve as many as 50 electric vehicles (EVs). The trial will use Qualcomm wireless inductive power transfer technology that enables high-efficiency power transfer across a large air gap. Mahindra Reva NXR Battery Electric Car Launch In India Expected In FY 2011-12

Mahindra and Mahindra has acquired Reva Electric car company and renamed it to Mahindra Reva about one year back and since then the efforts to launch a larger electric car have been greatly accelerated. NXR was first spotted testing in March 2010 testing on Indian roads. Since then the testing and improvements are going on for quite some time now. Recently it has been seen on Bangalore roads making rounds of road tests before the launch. The launch is expected soon, most likely by the end of 2011 or during Q4 of FY 2011-12. The Reva NXR is a 2 door 4 seater car with 160Km or range which will have high-tech features. The top speed of the NXR is 104 KMPL which is a pretty impressive speed for an electric car with low running cost. BMW recently added a new sub-brand BMW I to its subsidiary list and the most unique thing about the new brand is that all its work, dedication, effort and research is aimed at manufacturing futuristic electric vehicles which will have least impact on the environment and still be effortless and comfortable. Ever since after buying Reva, Mahindra & Mahindra, Mahindra Reva has been working extremely hard on the next generation electric car, Reva NXR which proves to be an improvement over the previous one.
