This year the team would be competing without two of its important parts one being the Title sponsor ING who was to leave the team before 2010 but hastened their departure after witnessing the Singapore crash scandal, while the other one Mutua Madrilena.

Announcement have been made about the driver’s line-up including Vitaly Petrov along with Robert Kubica and the other two reserve drivers have also been revealed. Vitaly Petrov will become the first Russian F1 driver to work with Renault in 2010.

The team officially launched its 2010 campaign at the Mercedes Motorsport museum at Stuggart on 25th January which was witnessed by all the drivers and the protagonists. The only thing missing was the new 2010 Formula one car. But one week later on the racetrack at 9:00 am in the pitlane the car got its first glimpse. The car was first driven by Nico Rosberg in the morning and then by Michael Schumacher on February 1st at Cheste.

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

The car is found to have strikingly different from the BRAWN GP01 and could be easily differentiated from the other 2010 F1 cars. The car has a color combination of Black and Silver and the new nose is an implementation of the Red Bull RB5 V-nose concept. The nose is very different from its earlier Brawn GP01 model and the nose edge is higher at both the sides right up to the cockpit opening. The nose is rounded off at the underside like the RB5 and the lower suspension mounts are attached to the chassis with a small kneel making the car a single kneel and this is the only we have seen since 2008. The sidepods entries have changed less making the air inlets look bulky as compared to McLaren and Ferrari.

The AIRBOX is the most unseen part which not even acts as an air inlet but also works as a roll hoop protecting the drivers in case of crash. The concept of roll hoop however is different on Mercedes as they have constructed in differently, making it vertical and a thick support at the centerline  of the car.

The airbox has been split in two and at the rear small openings are provided on each side for cooling purpose of some of the components. Despite the fairly bulky shape of the sidepods with a lack of undercut, the rear end of the car is extremely mince, leaving most of the suspension components open to free airflow.

The Perfect venue for one of the sporting world’s most eagerly anticipated new challengers and the audience touching a 400 mark in the guest list has been selected by the team as The Royal Horticultural Hall. The 400 guests also includes all the staff members of the newly formed formula one lotus team who will be first ones to witness the unveiling of new Lotus Car.

The car is an evidence to the level of progress that the Lotus team has achieved ever since they won the right to final slot on the 2010 grid followed by the withdrawal of  BMW. Lola displayed a model of the 2010 specification F1 car which was not successful in its bid to compete in 2010.  The car will have a wind tunnel model and the changes made in the design will include narrower front tyres and larger fuel tanks owing to the refueling ban.

According to the officials this year’s car is the most highly developed car they have ever built and McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh says that one can be confident but never absolutely confident as one never knows there might be some things that are new to them like the double diffuser., still he was very elated. The car presented is the one that will be rolled out for the tests to be conducted on the track and not the car that the team would race with.

McLaren has also planned an aggressive development programme ahead of the first race in Bahrain and the car commencing the season will be quite different in appearance than the presented car. This year the team focused more on sharing the work of the engineers with the driver and making the driver work with the team to bring a better output along with developing understanding. This year the confidence comes out from last season’s win as they turned a knowingly poor car into a winner developing more faith in the engineering staff.

As per the sixth place achieved by this team in the last year’s constructors’ standings, this year the team will be served with a starting point in the new season,inspiring them for a hungrier and leaner focus over the new season despite the fact that the budget and the amount of manpower will be reduced this year. This will demand a wider and creative thinking along with increased level of efficiency.

Driver Kamui Kobakashi (23) performed well in two Grand Prix in 2009 and has already made his first World Championship Points firming his place in 2010 driver line-up. While De La Rosa (38) with his 71 Grand Prix races brings experience to the team with his previous records for setting fastest laps and podium finishes.

The teams’s technical director Willy Rampf  said that C29 has been built on the experiences gained by the team in the previous year. Significant changes have been made to the car’s design as per the requirements for this year’s Grand prix, with larger fuel tank and reduced width of front tyres. these changes demands more weight to be shifted to the rear wheels reason being that the overall car has grown longer and slimmer as well.

Eye-catching features of the car include the highly intricate shape of the nose which is raised unlike the previous model and an extremely long undercut the the point of transition from chassis into underbody. Another feature is the double diffuser at the rear and these and other aerodynamic changes ensure optimum airflow into the diffuser. Consequently further changes were made as the car has been engined by Ferrari to integrate the Ferrari engine as well as the Ferrari Gear Box.

The F10 has been presented with the specifications of the 2009 model and Ferrari is avoiding showing any images of the rear of the car. The reason being that the car is believed to have an aggressive double diffuser.

Another striking change is the one that has been made to the Nose of the car. It is longer and raised higher and is very much similar to the 2009 Red Bull RB5. Due to the changes made to the nose the onboard camera housings which every car must be fitted with have been moved back from the tip of the nose. The air intakes are slightly smaller which is a consequence of the installation of KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) being mandatory this year.

On the inside of the chassis one compromise that other teams will have to make is with the longer and narrower radiators to fit around the larger fuel tanks. The rear view mirrors are mounted on small turning vanes in front of the sidepods. The sidepods themselves are given a more aerodynamic shape. The Planned run for Massa on Ferrari’s fiorano track was later called off due to the track being covered in ice leaving the fans to wait, for a glimpse until the testing of the 2010 car starts at Valencia on February 1st.
