Some weeks back, we shared with you a spy picture of a small Maruti Suzuki car spotted testing which looked like a fusion of Maruti Alto and Maruti 800 in terms of design. Well this time, we bring you an official news. Maruti Suzuki India’s managing executive officer (engineering) IV Rao has stated that Maruti Suzuki is aggressively working on an all-new small car. The car will be a segment below the Maruti Alto which brings it closer to the Tata Nano’s territory. In his official statement to media, he stated This will be an all-new car, though based on an existing platform. The idea is to do it in-house at Maruti, with minimal support from our Japanese parent, Suzuki. The idea behind bringing is to constantly introduce new models while also developing the company’s R&D capability to develop, design and engineer a model on its own. Being a price sensitive market for years, manufacturers have always focused on introducing cheap cars into the industry. So far Tata and Maruti Suzuki are the only brands who are quick and established enough to introduce ultra low cost vehicles such as the Tata Nano , Maruti Alto K10 and the legend Maruti 800. Tata is delighted to see the response for the Nano but Maruti was still still struggling to produce a car even cheaper than the Maruti Alto K10 until today when a scoop picture has surfaced the internet and creating a lot of buzz. Speculations were there for quite some time now about a new project that Maruti was working on to refill the space for the phased out 800 but no evidence was there to which could confirm the news. Maruti 800 Replacement Code-name Maruti YE3 Coming In 2012

Maruti 800 has been a legend in India for decades before it got finally phased out from the cities with BS4 emission norms implemented last year. With time, it will be phased out completely when BS4 emission norms will be applied nationwide. To make up for the missing candidate in the small car of Maruti 800 portfolio, Maruti Suzuki is working hard with its research and development team and the 100% made in India car, code named Maruti YE3 is in the making. The Maruti YE3, which will be given a name later by Maruti, will debut at the Auto Expo 2012 in Delhi. Maruti will display the Indian engineering product at the expo to gain public reactions and feedbacks. Based on the reactions and feedback, some tweaks and feature changed will be done to the small car before it hits the assembly line for mass production. Maruti 800 Sales Increased Overseas As Its Phased Out From Indian Cities

Maruti Suzuki has phased out Maruti 800, the legendary small car of its time from 13 Indian citied where BS4 Emission norms were made mandatory. Maruti decided not to upgrade the Maruti 800 to BS4 Engine and still sell it in the cities where BS4 norms are not mandatory as yet. To its surprise, overall sales of Maruti 800 have increased after phase out from these cities. The reason is not domestic sales, but the exports. This increase in export is a wonderful 91.5% in period of April to August 2010 compared to same period over last year. The car is exported to many countries including Algeria,Chile, Egypt etc. The domestic sales in India have however dropped by about 17%. Maruti Suzuki has sold over 25 Lakh Maruti 800 cars in last 25 years. It has revolutionized Indian commuting in every sense. This small car has been a small wonder for Maruti Suzuki for over a quarter century. This legendary Maruti 800 is being Phased out of 13 Indian cities from April 2010 where BS4 emission norms will be applicable from 1st April 2010. It will be sold in other than these 13 cities till the time BS4 norms are not applied all over India. The reason for the phase out of Maruti 800 is that Maruti Suzuki is not willing to upgrade the engine of Maruti 800 to make it compliant with BS4 emission norms. Although Maruti has already upgraded Maruti Swift and Maruti Swift Dzire Engine and will be upgrading Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Alto engine to make it compliant with BS4 norms. All the new cars launched by Maruti are already BS4 compliant. Maruti KB Series Engines For Maruti Alto And Maruti Wagon R

The Indian major Automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited is all set to launch Maruti Alto and Maruti Wagon R with the new KB-series engine presently coming in Maruti Estilo, Maruti Ritz and Maruti A-Star. Maruti Alto and Maruti Wagon R are the two largest selling models from Maruti Suzuki are very particular. The BS IV norms will be satisfied by the new KB series engine that is to be installed in new version of Wagon R and Alto. The company will discontinue the production of the FBD engine currently coming and will put the K-series engine instead, as the FBD engine is not Bharat Stage IV complaint. 11 cities in India are ready to switch to the BS IV norms from BS III norms and consequently Maruti is ready to face the change. It has already upgraded its mid-sized sedan SX4 to make it BS IV compatible and it will be shortly launched in the market. Soon after the Auto Expo 2010 got over, it was expected that Maruti Suzuki will reduce the price of its cars to compete with the Small cars like Tata Nano and other Newly Launched Cars. On the contrary the largest consumer car company Maruti just announced price hike in its cars. I want to start this blog with a topic that has been hovering in my mind for past few months since i have seen TATA Nano at Auto Expo 2008. Main Differences Between Tata Nano and Maruti 800? Price : Tata Nano is going to be the cheapest car in the world. Expected to be around Rs. 1 Lakh ($2500), however after road-tax, registration, sales tax etc etc. For the base variant’s, the on road price of Tata Nano is about Rs. 1.3 Lakh ($3300). Maruti 800 costs about Rs 1.95 ($ 4900), which is the cheapest available new car until Tata Nano is launched. Maruti Suzuki will most probably bring down the price further to attract the customers after the Tata Nano is launched. Looks: In Looks, Tata Nano clearly beats the Maruti 800, I have seen Tata Nano at Auto Expo 2008 in Delhi, and it looks stunning considering that its the cheapest car in the world.
