Although not all customers will be able to avail this offer because of limited availability of such test cars with Tata, but many serious customers may get this offer based of dealer’s or Tata’s discretion.

In an interaction with media, a spokesperson for Tata Motors quoted :

As part of the test-drive initiative, we are also inviting those who test drive to express interest on whether they would also like to keep a car for 15 days to get more acquainted with it.

Considering the backlog of the deliveries of Tata Nano yet to reach the first one lakh buyers, this is a bold step and also reflects the confidence and capability of Tata Nano’s Gujarat plant. The time is not far when Tata Nano Will Be Readily Available without any waiting or premium.

So far the most important achievement for the Tatas was the world’s cheapest car Tata Nano whose sales are gaining pace lately.The car is giving tough competition to other car manufacturers forcing them to produce similar ultra low cost vehicles which are not only affordable but economical as well.

Currently the buzz around the brand is that the Karnataka government is seriously considering a proposal where it is interested in buying Nanos and replacing them with the auto-rickshaws within the state.To be honest the idea seems to be very cost effective and luxurious enough to draw attention and eventually is aimed at convenient travelling.

Mr.R.Ashok, Transport Minister of Karnataka has said, “The government is considering a decision to buy 10,000 Nano cars and rent them out in Bengaluru and the profit from this scheme will be shared between the government and the drivers at 40:60 ratio respectively. The government may invest money for buying the Nano’s either from its own resources or take loans for the same”

Revealing the main motive behind this new idea, he quoted,”The difference in the cost between a Nano and a regular auto rickshaw is not much and meanwhile the government continues to receive complaints about auto drivers and also the number of auto rickshaws in the city is insufficient compared to the population”

We are content to hear such fresh ideas since once the Nano gets introduced as auto rickshaws in Bengaluru,the rest of the states will not lag behind in acquiring the same sort of makeover.

Named as Tata Nano the car became very popular within a bat of an eyelid and was started being known as the Common Man’s Car. People started flooding to nearest dealerships to get one such car booked and for the customers’ encouragement, the company announced of selling first 1 lakh cars at the price tag of Rs. 1 lakh.

The first 1 lakh customers will not be included in the list of price revision while the rest who have booked Nano are being informed of the price hike. The reason for this hike is expected to be the rising input costs and BS IV emission norms, which has made every company to alter their engines in order to satisfy the latter.

And rewarding the customers loyalty towards the brand, it had also announced of offering the buyers with a choice of either a one-year free annual maintenance contract(AMC) or free accessories worth Rs.4000/- or an extended warranty.

Revised Price Of Tana Nano

The company has rolled out three models Standard, CX and LX whose on-road prices were expected as follows:-

• Rs. 1,30,000 for Tata Nano  Standard,
• Rs. 1,55,000 for Tata Nano CX
• Rs. 1,90,000 for Tata Nano LX version

Revised prices(approximate) of the above variants after 2-5 percent increase:-

• Rs. 1,36,500 for Tata Nano  Standard
• Rs. 1,62,500 for Tata Nano CX
• Rs. 2,05,000 for Tata Nano LX version

I have already observed a lot of Nano cars on roads of Delhi in past few weeks after the Sanand Plant has been operational. Earlier I used to see a Tata Nano rarely. The most promising part of this growth expectation is almost no competition as yet in this segment. With strong hold of Tata on this Ultra Low Cost (ULC) car segment in absence of any present competition, the sales numbers are expected to reach even better heights in months to follow after the backlog of previous bookings is cleared. The rate at which the production is going on, Tata Nano will soon be available without any waiting period for the customers.

As per Manoj Arora, Senior Manager at Tata Motors “From this August or September, customers will be able to walk into our showroom and drive out in a Nano”. This means a great deal of increase in sales of Tata Nano for the customers who were not able to get an instant deliver of the car and had to wait.

This  statement from Tata Motors will mean that the competition in the small car sector is going to intensify in volumes now. Also some of the two-wheeler customers will also be converted to Nano customers because of the price points. Lets wait and watch, the easy availability will depend a great deal on the demand & production balance for Tata Nano in the coming months.

Tata Motors’ brand new plant for the Tata Nano at Sanand, in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat, was inaugurated today by the Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Narendra Modi, in the presence of the Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors, Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Ministers of the Gujarat Government, top officials, vendor and supplier partners, dealers and associates of the company.

The plant’s inauguration marks the culmination of the company’s goal of making the Tata Nano freely available to hundreds of thousands of families, desirous of the car. The capacity of the plant, to begin with, will be 250,000 cars per year to be achieved in phases, and with some balancing is expandable up to 350,000 cars per year. Further capacity expansion has also been provided for in this location.

Deliveries from the plant, including BS4 Tata Nanos, will begin this month. The output, supplemented by the facility at Pantnagar (Uttarakhand), will in the immediate phase complete pending orders from the booking process of 2009.

Built in a record time of 14 months starting November 2008, the integrated facility comprises Tata Motors’ own plant, spread over 725 acres, and an adjacent vendor park, spread over 375 acres, to house key component manufacturers for the Tata Nano.

In line with latest world-class manufacturing practices, the Tata Nano plant has been equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. They include sophisticated robotics and high speed production lines. Conscious of the critical need of environment protection, the plant has energy-efficient motors, variable frequency drives, and systems to measure and monitor carbon levels. These are supplemented with extensive tree plantation, sustainable water sourcing through water harvesting and ground water recharging and harnessing solar energy for illumination.

At the vendor park, plots have already been allocated to 41 vendors. More will be accommodated subsequently. Vendors, accounting for about 80% of the value of components to be sourced from the park, have already begun construction. In the interim, they will supply the plant from their existing facilities in the country.

To celebrate the inauguration of the plant, a fleet of Tata Nanos driven by prospective customers, who participated in an online contest on www.tatanano.com, began a country-wide drive, called the Nano Superdrive, from Sanand today. The drive was flagged off by Mr. Tata. The drive will cover 15,000 km touching 36 cities across the country, before converging at Sanand on June 28. Glimpses of the drive, with images and blogs, will be available on www.tatanano.com.

The investigations have revealed that the two fire incidents were not related. The Nano Fire Accident in Mumbai has been suspected because of the presence of some foreign matter on the hot exhaust of the car which led to fire. The Vadodra Nano Fire Accident was found to be because of a ruptured fuel-line of the car.

After these findings, Tata Motors have declared the Tata Nano as safe and it will perform a safety inspection for all the Tata Nano users in India free of cost. The safety inspection are not a part of any recall, rather these are intended to inspect any safety flaws etc. in these cars. If any flaws are found in particular cars, they will be fixed by Tata. Tata will contact Nano customers and will fix appointments for such inspections.

The price of the Tata Nano BS-IV variants will costlier by about Rs. 5000 to 7000 as expected in the on-road price. This change will be intimated to the customers who have already booked their cars at the old price. If the customers are not willing to pay the extra amount, they can cancel the booking and get their booking amount back. Tata is not willing to bear the additional cost of Engine upgrade. The rising costs and upcoming competition by Ultra Low Cost Car By Bajaj will give a tough time for Tata Nano in years to come.

Tata Nano Diesel Specifications

Tata Nano Diesel will have a CRDI diesel engine from Bosch. The detailed specifications have not been announced as yet, but it is expected to be around 0.75 Litre Engine with a maximum power output of about 30BHP. I will update this section with detailed specifications as they are officially announced.

There are rumors of Tata Nano Diesel already being road-tested by Tata, so it may come to showrooms sooner than expected. An Electric Variant, Tata Nano EV has already been announced by Tata at the Geneva Motor Show 2010.

Tata Nano Diesel On Road Price In India

Tata Nano Diesel will have an advanced CRDI diesel engine which will be BS4 compliant. The cost of the base model of Tata Nano Diesel Ex-Showroom is Expected to be upward of Rs. 1.5 Lakh Rupees. On road price of Tata Nano Diesel will be around Rs. 1.65 Lakhs or more depending on the state you live in. This is an expected price range.

This is no surprise amongst increasing car prices that Tata Nano will not be a Rs. 1 Lakh car forever.
