TVS Develops New Automatic Transmission With Better Fuel Economy For Bikes And Scooters

TVS, the popular TVS Scooty manufacturer, has come up with something very interesting recently in Chennai. The company has announced that in 2013 a new species of gearless scooters and motorcycles equipping a newly developed engine will be launched. The new engine features a number of innovations that are still pending for acquiring patents, and are meant for delivering 20 percent more fuel economy to gearless scooter owners and an easy riding experience, like that of a scooter, for motorcycle owners. This new engine features an automatic transmission technology that will give more mileage to scooter owners while at the same time motorcycles fitted with this technology will not have clutch lever and gear and instead will use a button to change the gear. Imagine a situation where you tighten the a plastic bottle’s cap too tight, doesn’t it make it almost warp and get partially damaged ? Well metal bolts on the car tyres are not much different from the plastic caps on a bottle, but they have different strength and point of failure. In manufacturing plants where the automobiles and other machinery is manufactured, there is a way to measure how tightly a nut-bold is to be tightened. These meters are called torque meters, when mounted on the wrench, these are called torque-wrench. Most of the roadside tyre fitting or trye fitting is done without use of torque wrench, which might be slowly damaging for the nuts and bolts, or on the other hand, if tightened loosely, they might be a big safety risk. Ever since I wrote about the MPFI Technology , I wanted to cover CRDI also. In this article, I have used simple words and terms that help you easily understand how things work with CRDI / CRDe / DICOR / TDI etc. If I have to draw an analogy, I would say CRDI is for Diesel Engine as MPFI is for Gasoline/Petrol Engine. [image credit] Common Rail Direct Injection or CRDI CRDI is an intelligent way of controlling a diesel engine with use of modern computer systems. CRDI helps to improve the power, performance and reduce harmful emissions from a diesel engine. Conventional Diesel Engines (non-CRDI engines) are sluggish, noisy and poor in performance compared to a CRDI engine. CRDI or common rail direct injection system is also sometimes referred to by many similar or different names. I was listening to the news of release ceremony of New Honda Activa 2009 version, they were telling about the new features. Like most of new releases, New Honda Activa 2009 has some more body styling, some added security features like Anti-theft alarm which is a good feature. The most un-conventional and innovative features I noticed was Combi-Brake System which really caught my attention. What is Combi-Brake? Combi-brake means that the brake will act on front and rear wheel together every time you apply the brakes. This means a lot of improved safety. Why Combi-Brake means more safety? In two wheelers (scooters and bikes), there are two separate brake controls for front and rear wheels. This is true for almost all two-wheelers that I have ever seen or ridden.
