TVS, the popular TVS Scooty manufacturer, has come up with something very interesting recently in Chennai. The company has announced that in 2013 a new species of gearless scooters and motorcycles equipping a newly developed engine will be launched. The new engine features a number of innovations that are still pending for acquiring patents, and are meant for delivering 20 percent more fuel economy to gearless scooter owners and an easy riding experience, like that of a scooter, for motorcycle owners. This new engine features an automatic transmission technology that will give more mileage to scooter owners while at the same time motorcycles fitted with this technology will not have clutch lever and gear and instead will use a button to change the gear. These motorcycles will also have the option to simply put the motorcycle into automatic mode where even the button will not have to be pressed and the gear will be changed automatically. image – TVS Apache RTR for illustration only Vinay Harne, president, new product development informed that the new technology if fully developed and is under testing. The engine has passed the elementary stages but testing under various climatic conditions and a full 100,000 km [...]
TVS Develops New Automatic Transmission With Better Fuel Economy For Bikes And Scooters is a post from: CarBlogIndia - All About Automobiles. All Rights Reserved. Copyright Policy

New car technologies are invented every now and then but some have been with us for years. In our earlier Automobile technology posts on Car Blog India, we have talked about ABS, EBD, Turbochargers, Superchargers and many other but today we will be talking about a technology which is half a century old and now finds an important place in every luxury car. In 1945 a blind yet prolific inventor, Mr. Ralph Teetor invented a system which is now one of the most important features of any good car globally, the Cruise Control. The system was first introduced in 1958 with Chrysler models such as Imperial, New Yorker and Windsor and by 1960 all Cadillacs were offered with Cruise Control. Presently most of the global automobile giants like Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Nissan, Kia, Honda, Nissan, etc. offer this feature with most of their cars. Mahindra & Mahindra is also on its way of providing better safety features and offers Cruise Control with Mahindra Scorpio VLX. image- cruise control mounted on steering What Is Cruise Control? Cruise Control is a system which is capable of maintaining the speed of a car at a desired level.
We often hear about new cars and engine technologies, we try to bring them to you through our dedicated technology articles. Today with this post we would like to explain you two of the most used terms, Supercharger and Turbocharger and will also make you understand the difference between them. Before I start explaining each of them, let me just brief you on why they are actually implemented in cars and what is their purpose. Internal combustion engines i.e four stroke ones, produce a specific amount of horsepower but car lovers who wish to increase the performance of their vehicles, get Turbocharger or Supercharger on their engines. These devices act as as enhancers and increase the horsepower of the vehicle by almost 30 to 40%, thereby adding a lot more thrust. Turbocharger Image Credit-Howstuffworks A turbocharger is basically a centrifugal compressor driven by a turbine which is run by the exhaust gases or emission gases coming out of the your car’s engine. The compressor used in the construction compresses the air which is about to enter the engine, to high pressure. With increased pressure, the weight or amount of fuel entering the same space inside the engine is increased. In [...]
What is a Turbocharger? What is a Supercharger?
We all know that the petrol prices are on the seventh sky and probably they will keep rising until they reach an unaffordable level. And undoubtedly it has to happen one day since its a non renewable resource of energy developed from remains of animals. CNG which is another resource of energy and is rapidly developing in our country but the fact remains that it will get completely exhausted from our planet within a few decades from now. Electric cars are also getting a great response across many countries who encourage such eco-friendly technologies. But the most promising of all is Fuel Cell Technology which is expected to do wonders once accepted globally. A fuel cell is an electrochemical cell converting energy from a fuel into electrical energy and reactions taking place between the fuel supply and an oxidizing agent result in the generated electricity. [Image Credit – Treehugger] Making it more convenient to understand we can say that a fuel cell converts the chemicals hydrogen and oxygen into water, and in the process it produces electricity. Another very common example of an electrochemical device is a battery which is used almost everywhere. But of all the characteristics the most [...]
Fuel Cell Technology, How It Works? – Hydrogen Fuel Cell is a post from: CarBlogIndia - All About Automobiles. All Rights Reserved. Copyright Policy

Imagine a situation where you tighten the a plastic bottle’s cap too tight, doesn’t it make it almost warp and get partially damaged ? Well metal bolts on the car tyres are not much different from the plastic caps on a bottle, but they have different strength and point of failure. In manufacturing plants where the automobiles and other machinery is manufactured, there is a way to measure how tightly a nut-bold is to be tightened. These meters are called torque meters, when mounted on the wrench, these are called torque-wrench. Most of the roadside tyre fitting or trye fitting is done without use of torque wrench, which might be slowly damaging for the nuts and bolts, or on the other hand, if tightened loosely, they might be a big safety risk. Tyrestore Chennai has come up with fitting of tyres using torque-wench, which is a good safety practice followed by them. I have been in touch with Tyrestore for some time and have been observing that they have brought some good and advanced technologies for vehicle safety from tyre fitting point of view. I find it to be an appreciable initiative towards safety and quality. I will keep posting [...]
Torque Wrench For Tyre Fitting For Added Safety – Tyrestore Chennai is a post from: CarBlogIndia - All About Automobiles. All Rights Reserved. Copyright Policy

Ever since I wrote about the MPFI Technology , I wanted to cover CRDI also. In this article, I have used simple words and terms that help you easily understand how things work with CRDI / CRDe / DICOR / TDI etc. If I have to draw an analogy, I would say CRDI is for Diesel Engine as MPFI is for Gasoline/Petrol Engine. [image credit] Common Rail Direct Injection or CRDI CRDI is an intelligent way of controlling a diesel engine with use of modern computer systems. CRDI helps to improve the power, performance and reduce harmful emissions from a diesel engine. Conventional Diesel Engines (non-CRDI engines) are sluggish, noisy and poor in performance compared to a CRDI engine. CRDI or common rail direct injection system is also sometimes referred to by many similar or different names. Some brands use name CRDe / DICOR / Turbojet / DDIS / TDI etc. All these systems work on same principles with slight variations and enhancements here and there. CRDI system uses common rail which is like one single rail or fuel channel which contains diesel compresses at high pressure. This is a called a common rail because there is one single [...]
CRDI Technology In Plain English is a post from: CarBlogIndia - All About Automobiles. All Rights Reserved. Copyright Policy

I was listening to the news of release ceremony of New Honda Activa 2009 version, they were telling about the new features. Like most of new releases, New Honda Activa 2009 has some more body styling, some added security features like Anti-theft alarm which is a good feature. The most un-conventional and innovative features I noticed was Combi-Brake System which really caught my attention. What is Combi-Brake? Combi-brake means that the brake will act on front and rear wheel together every time you apply the brakes. This means a lot of improved safety. Why Combi-Brake means more safety? In two wheelers (scooters and bikes), there are two separate brake controls for front and rear wheels. This is true for almost all two-wheelers that I have ever seen or ridden. Most of two-wheeler riders apply only rear wheel brake, or use only rear brake in most of the cases. However for most effective braking and stopping in small distance safely without loosing control, both front and rear brakes should be used together. Most people fear using front brakes too much because if you press them too hard, the scooter/bike may skid and the rider will fall badly. Combi-Brakes will apply the [...]
New Honda Activa Has Combi-Brake Technology is a post from: CarBlogIndia - All About Automobiles. All Rights Reserved. Copyright Policy
