The compact SUV segment in India is quickly becoming one of the most hotly contested segment. After enjoying a monopoly in this segment for a few years, the Ford EcoSport has come under fire from both the Mahindra TUV300 and the recently launched Maruti Vitara Brezza. And it’s only going to get more competitive with the arrival of new products such as the Tata Nexon early next year. The latter was on display at the Auto Expo recently in an almost production-ready guise. It managed to raise more than a few eyebrows thanks to the striking exterior design. Although the launch is still some time away from us, based on our expectations and details that have been revealed by Tata, here’s a look at how the upcoming compact SUV from Tata compares with current rivals in our Tata Nexon vs Vitara Brezza vs EcoSport spec sheet comparison.
Tata Nexon vs Vitara Brezza vs EcoSport – Price Comparison
|Tata Nexon*||Maruti Vitara Brezza^||Ford EcoSport|
|INR 6.50 lakh – 10.50 lakh||INR 6.99 lakh – 9.58 lakh||INR 7.29 lakh – 9.75 lakh|
*estimated, ^ex-showroom, New Delhi
Ford gave the EcoSport a massive price cut following the launch of the Vitara Brezza, which means the price gap, especially between the top level trims of the EcoSport and Brezza, is not much anymore. Also, bear in mind, the prices of the Vitara Brezza are introductory and will go up in the coming months. We’re expecting the Tata Nexon to undercut the petrol variants of the EcoSport albeit by a small margin. The diesel variants of the Nexon are expected to launch at starting price of INR 7 lacs. This will put it at par with the Brezza and the EcoSport.

The Brezza shares its engine with the S-Cross/Ciaz, which makes it the least powerful of the lot. No petrol is on offer yet. In addition to the new 1.5 L diesel, Tata will also offer the Nexon with a 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 108 bhp of maximum power. Ford offers the EcoSport with one diesel engine, as mentioned above, and two petrol engine options – a 1.5 L Ti-VCT and a 1.0 L EcoBoost. The bigger petrol engine even comes with an optional 6-speed dual clutch automatic.
Tata Nexon vs Vitara Brezza vs EcoSport Design Comparison
Design will be the Nexon’s biggest selling point and it’s not hard to see why. The designers have not deviated much from the concept that was showcased a few years back as you get the same coupe-like silhouette and cab-forward design. In stark contrast to Nexon, the Vitara Brezza gets a very simple, two-box shape that isn’t as eye-catching as the Nexon or even the EcoSport. That said, it still looks elegant and is sure to please everyone. The EcoSport might have been around for a long time now, but it still remains on the better looking small SUVs out there.
The interiors of the Nexon are unlike anything we have seen from Tata yet. The dashboard comes finished in a dual tone colour scheme with a floating touchscreen placed above the centre console. The steering wheel is the only familiar element here. Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza features an all-black dashboard complete with a touchscreen infotainment system and multiple colour options for the instrument console, and dual tone paint schemes. The interiors of the EcoSport follow the same aggressive design theme as the exteriors with the highlights being the striking centre console and hooded dials.
Tata Nexon vs Vitara Brezza vs EcoSport Comparison Verdict
