After months of waiting and teasing spy shots, the 7th generation Toyota Camry has been launched in the US. The 2012 Toyota Camry, for the moment, will be launched in the US market only and will reach the dealerships by the month of October. As per expectations, the car should have been a new design but unfortunately it is the same ongoing Camry with a number of cosmetic changes.
This does not mean the car looks bad, instead it is quite refreshing but we expected something more from Toyota. The new car has got a more spacious interior, improved driving dynamics and is even quieter on the inside than the current one.
Bob Carter, Toyota Division group vice president and general manager said, "The all-new 2012 Camry blends an evolution of the car’s values – such as comfort, efficiency, reliability and safety – with a more appealing design and engaging driving experience," He added, "Competition in the midsize sedan segment is the strongest it’s ever been, and the all-new Camry is designed to maintain its long-standing leadership while also broadening its appeal."
The car will be offered in three variants and one of them is a 2.5 Litre four cylinder engine delivering 178 BHP of peak power and 230 Nm of peak torque. A 3.5 Litre V6 is also available for performance lovers and churns out 268 BHP of peak power and peak torque of 325 Nm. Besides the above two, the company is also offering all new Camry Hybrid which uses the same 2.5 Litre unit but is more than 30 percent economical than the gasoline version.
The exteriors are simple yet powerful enough to move some eye balls but the inside of the car is much more inviting. Some of the interior features include spacious interiors, new dashboard design, modified seat locations, redesigned seats and "lean" door, pillar and headliner trim.
The car also gets 10 standard airbags: dual-stage advanced SRS front airbags, front and rear seat-mounted side airbags, side curtain airbags and a driver’s and front passenger’s knee airbag. Some of the safety features include Toyota’s Star Safety System including Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist and Smart Stop Technology brake-override system. It also features an electronic tire pressure monitoring system as standard.
Its new, contemporary and quite impressive and all we can do is just wait for the time when Toyota officially brings it to India.
