Volkswagen has acquired a stake of about 20% in Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan sometime back after which Nissan announced that they will reconsider the Maruti A-Star deal after 2012 with Suzuki which is sold as Nissan Pixo. After this acquisition, there are talks going on between Volkswagen making cars based on Maruti Suzuki Ritz and Maruti Wagon R.

This will help Volkswagen strengthen itself in the small car segments in many countries without spending huge amounts on research and development of small and cost effective small cars which fit global standards. Volkswagen may put a badge of Skoda on these small cars. The cars will use the K series MPFI Petrol Engines and the DDIS CRDI diesel engines which are used currently in these cars. The cars will be sold under Volkswagen and Skoda brands and with some new names other than the names which Suzuki uses.
