We Indians love our SUVs and this is a fact known to every automobile manufacturer that is currently operating in India. Volkswagen, the German car marquee has been present in India for a while now but does not have an SUV in its portfolio. Volkswagen is looking to add an SUV to its lineup this year. This SUV will be the latest generation Tiguan that was on display at the Auto Expo 2016. The upcoming 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV will cost around Rs. 26-30 lakh in India. Production of the SUV is underway at Volkswagen’s facility in Aurangabad. Here, in this post, we’ve put together all the available details on the new Volkswagen Tiguan India launch.
Volkswagen Tiguan India Launch
|Model Name||Expected Launch Date|
|Volkswagen Tiguan India Launch||May 24, 2017|
VW India will be launching the Tiguan and Passat in India this year. The launch of the Volkswagen Tiguan in India will take place on 24th May. VW will bring the car via the CKD route and production of the SUV is already underway it at its facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “We are delighted to introduce one of our most successful global products to the Indian market. The Tiguan will be our premium SUV offering for India and will cater to the unceasing demand in the segment. Our customers will now have an extended portfolio, ranging from hatchback to executive sedan, to meet their requirements at our showrooms.”

Volkswagen Tiguan Price in India
|Variant||Estimated Ex-Showroom Price|
|Volkswagen Tiguan Comfortline||Rs. 26 lakhs|
|Volkswagen Tiguan Highline||Rs. 29 lakhs|
In India, the Tiguan will come in Comfortline and Highline trims. The Volkswagen Tiguan India prices in India should start around Rs. 26 lakh (ex-showroom). Top of the line diesel trim with all-wheel drive is likely to cost around Rs. 29 lakh on road. Volkswagen, with the exception of the new Ameo, has never been aggressive with the pricing of its products. In the case of the Tiguan, a sticker price of above 26 lakh will place it bang in the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner territory. With most buyers giving preference to looks and size over everything else, the Tiguan might find it a bit tough to attract buyers. Ideally, a sub-25 lakh price tag is what VW should come up with.

However, specifications of the India-spec Volkswagen Tiguan could vary. VW might also launch petrol variants of the Tiguan in India at a later stage.
VW revealed a three-row version of the Tiguan called the Tiguan Allspace last year. Built primarily for the Chinese market, it could make sense for India as well. And a 7 seat version will be better equipped to challenge the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq. However, China is a left hand drive market. So, engineering a right hand drive version of the Tiguan Allspace might not be feasible. Therefore, India will be getting the standard 5-seat version of the Tiguan.

The Tiguan bears the unmistakable Volkswagen family look with its clean straight lines. The nose gets a chrome grille that flows neatly into the headlamps. Tiguan features all-LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights. Its bonnet features sharp straight lines, much like the rest of the car. At the back, the Tiguan gets boomerang-shape LED tail lamps. The tail bears a typical Volkswagen look. Overall, the styling isn’t very eye catching, but it works well and ensures the Tiguan is a smart looking SUV.

A 7-speed DSG automatic transmission will be standard. We expect the top-end trims to also feature n All Wheel Drive system.
