Electric Tata Nexon Spied Testing; Will Be Launched In 2020

The electric version of Tata Nexon has been spied testing in Pune with a camouflaged front portion. The EV will be launched after the Altroz EV, by mid-2020.

Looks like Tata Motors has commenced the testing of its second electric vehicle in line. The electric Tata Nexon has been spied for the first time, in a semi-camouflaged state near its plant in Pune.

Tata Motors has confirmed that they will launch the electric version of Altroz first, followed by the electric Nexon. The already popular Nexon SUV will be a successful addition to the manufacturer’s EV lineup.

The front portion of the electric Tata Nexon has been covered. The SUV is set to receive a facelift next year with redesigned bumpers, revised headlamp setup and a new front grille and the electric version is likely to get the same design language.

The battery and electric motor specifications are unknown. Tata has Tigor EV in its lineup, which uses a 3-phase AC induction motor, producing 41 BHP. The Nexon might use the same motor but a better and more powerful version.

The 16.2 kWh battery pack on the Tigor EV takes around 6 hours to charge fully, but only 90 minutes with a fast charger. The claimed driving range of Tigor EV is 142 kms and the top-speed achievable is 100 km/hr.

As for the Nexon, it will get a bigger battery pack to provide a better driving range. Further, the electric version would not be much different from the 2020 Nexon Facelift, in terms of features, interiors and styling.

With its expected pricing of around Rs 15 Lakhs, it will find competition from the upcoming Mahindra XUV300 electric, which will also be launched next year. As of now, there is only one electric car in India, the Hyundai Kona.
