Chrysler has announced that it will make a fully electric variant of Fiat 500 Minicar and will start selling it by the year 2012. A concept version of the Fiat 500 EV was displayed at the Detroit Auto Show 2010 in January this year.
Chrysler team is working on development of Fiat 500 EV at its Headquarters in Auburn, Hills, Michigan. The car will be sold under Fiat Brand Name only, but Chrysler will build it specifically for the USA.
The car will have a mileage of minimum 100 miles on one charge, maybe by its launch, cheaper and improved Lithium Ion Battery technology make them go ever farther.
“The Fiat 500EV is an outstanding example of our efforts,” Scott Kunselman, senior VP of engineering. “The Fiat 500 is a small, lightweight platform perfect for integrating electric vehicle technology.”
