Over the past year or so, sales of the Brio hatchback haven’t been very encouraging. It was never a hot-seller and with the arrival of newer competition, it slipped further down the ranks. The Brio desperately needed an update and Honda has done just that. Honda has launched the Brio facelift in India, which gets an Amaze-like makeover inside out. We compare the upcoming m05odel with the old car in our Honda Brio old vs new comparison to find out what’s new.

At the front, the Brio facelift looks identical to the Amaze facelift that was introduced early this year. It gets a new bumper and a new grille that give the nose a heavier look. At the back, the Brio remains identical to the old model that is was on sale in India. The only additions are in the form of rear spoiler with LED stop lamp. Even the alloy wheel design remains the same. The grille gets a thick high gloss black bar, unlike the Amaze that gets a chrome one.
The interiors of the new Brio feature simpler and more elegant setup in comparison to the old model. Like the front end, the dashboard design of the Brio facelift is identical to the new Amaze’s dashboard design. While it does not feature a touchscreen audio unit, the new one does get Bluetooth connectivity. It also digital display for the aircon now. The steering wheel gets audio control. Behind it, there is a new three pod setup for the instrument console. Brio facelift features an all-black theme for the dashboard. However, while most trims get beige upholstery, the top end VX trims gets black upholstery.

Honda Brio continues with the 1.2-litre petrol engine. It makes 87 bhp of max power and 109 Nm of peak torque. A 5-speed manual transmission option is standard. While we were expecting Honda to replace the 5-speed automatic with a new CVT, that has not been the case. Fuel efficiency figures remain the same.

In terms of dimensions, the new Brio has grown in length by 30 mm thanks to the new front bumper. Apart from that, it remains the same in terms of size. There is no increase in interior space or boot space.
The launch of the 2016 Honda Brio should give a slight boost to the sales of the small hatchback. It is definitely better looking now and a much nicer place to be in. Armed with additional features, a new look and a much better cabin, the new Brio should help appeal to more buyers.
