Hyundai Xcent is based on the Hyundai Grand i10 hatchback and the resemblance is evident. But one thing which is appreciable about the Xcent is that the boot has been integrated very nicely in the Hyundai Xcent. The rear of the car does look nice and proportionate and does not look like a slap on boot or notchback like some other compact sedans in India. Just like Honda Amaze, the rear of the Xcent does not feel unnatural. The overall design language is typical Hyundai fluidic language which makes the car look very appealing and stylish. There is pronounced hexagonal grille with use of chrome on the front.
The headlamps sweep to the side. There are pronounced wheel arches and two shoulder lines which give it the dynamic styling. Moving to the rear, there are chunky tail lamps combination cluster which also sweeps to the side. There is also use of chrome at the rear, above the license plate area.
The rear bumper is also nicely designed with integrated reflectors. The rear integration on the Xcent looks nicely done with large rear windshield area. On the sides you will notice large glass windows area which is deliberately added that way to make the cabin feel more airy and spacious.

Let me start with the front row of the Hyundai Xcent, the seats are nicely designed bucket seats for comfortable drive. The driver side seat gets height adjust feature. There are deep door pockets and integrated speakers on all four doors. The driver side door gets controls for power folding outside rear view mirrors which are also electrically adjustable. Top end variants also get push button start with keyless entry system. The instrument console gets large analogue speedometer, small analogue tachometer and temperature and fuel gauge. There is also a digital odometer and trip meter with gear shift indicator.
The 3 spoke steering wheel gets multi-function control including audio system control, phone controls and trip meter controls. The central console gets integrated audio system with Bluetooth, USB, Aux, CD and in-built media storage of 1 GB. There is automatic climate control system with ionizer for odour free air in cabin. There is also cooled glove box on the Xcent which is very useful for keeping the beverages cool on hot summer days.
There is a 12 volt power socket just below the AC controls with USB and Aux-input controls. Moving to the rear seats, the seats are well cushioned and there is a rear AC vent for the comfort of passengers at rear. There is a 12 volt power socket at the rear for charging phones, laptops etc. There is also a foldable arm-rest with cup-holders at the middle on the rear seat. There are adjustable head restraints at the rear seat of Hyundai Xcent.
There is class leading boot space of 400+ litres on the Xcent which is very useful for a family holiday or airport commute.
[box type=”success” ]Summarizing the Hyundai Xcent review on the interiors, the Xcent is comfortable, feature loaded, spacious and offers ample boot space too.[/box]
Talking about the ride comfort on Hyundai Xcent, it does feel fairly comfortable. The suspensions has been nicely tuned and does feel well balanced, however it is not too soft like the i20 or Verna, which works in favour of the handling of the car. Hyundai Xcent’s handling is better than some other Hyundai cars like i20 which have softer suspension.
We tested the car at speeds as high as 150 KMPH and did not find any problem with the handling. The NVH levels of the car are also very low which makes it feel very planted and plaint at high speeds as well.
[box type=”success” ]Summarizing the ride and handling aspect of the Hyundai Xcent review , I would say that this car is among one of the most impressive small cars with a very nicely balance between ride comfort and handling.[/box]
Hyundai Xcent offers both petrol and diesel options. The petrol version gets a 1.2 litre VTVT Kappa 2 engine with 82 BHP of power and 114 Nm of torqure. The diesel version gets a U2 1.1 litre second generation CRDI engine with 71 BHP of peak power and 180 BHP of peak power. Power delivery of both petrol and diesel models is fairly linear, however the diesel model offers oodles of torque which is really helpful for comfortable city driving condition. ARAI certifies mileage of Hyundai Xcent is 24.4 KMPL with diesel model and 19.1 KMPL on the petrol MT model. We could not measure the mileage on our 60 Km drive, but as per our experience with Hyundai cars, we believe that in real world you will get around 20 KMPL on diesel around 15 KMPL with the petrol manual transmission car.
