The next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee is much bigger and beefier than the present one. It will get some sort of electrification and level-2 self-driving technology as well.

The next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee has been spied testing internationally and images of the same have surfaced the internet for the first time. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee seems to have grown much bigger and size and appears a lot beefier than the present model as well. It is expected to arrive sometime in 2021.

Next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee spotted testing for the first time

The next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee will be based on a new platform borrowed from Alfa Romeo. The test mule that was spotted came heavily camouflaged though and its really difficult to tell any details about the design apart from the evident increase in its dimensions. The SUV sure looks longer though with a much boxier front. We also expect some redesign of the seven-slat grille.

What’s still visible in this test mule are new larger ORVMs and larger black multi-spoke alloy wheels as well. The rear section comes with some pseudo cladding and some bits of the LED tail lights are also visible through the camouflage which are new horizontal units. There are no interior spy shots of the Grand Cherokee and while its hard to tell how that will look, we can assure that it will be much more feature loaded than before.

The large dimensions also suggest a longer wheelbase, thus allowing for more space on the interiors. There are already rumors about the new Grand Cherokee getting a third row of seats, and going by the dimensions it sure looks like it could get a third row of seats.

Jeep hasn’t revealed anu technical details about the next-gen Grand Cherokee but we expect it to feature some sort of electrification. There could be a mild hybrid system mated to a V6 engine and a V8 engine on the sportier SRT variant as well. The Grand Cherokee will also offer Level-2 self-driving function. Moreover, the company has also announced that all Jeep products will offer Level 3 self-driving technology by the end of 2021. The next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee is expected to arrive sometime in 2020.
