Skoda following its offensive marketing strategy has unveiled an all new small car based on the much awaited Volkswagen Up. This new hatchback is the seventh model of Skoda’s line-up and is a part of a range of small city cars which the manufacturer calls as ‘New Small Family’. As of now the three door model has been unveiled the the five door one is said to be launched in 2012 mid.
Talking about the car, it is a perfect blend of the ongoing Skoda Fabia and the Skoda Vision D concept. The grille and bonnet look much like what you see in the Vision D concept whereas the new headlamps get their design cues from Fabia. The car also has a slight resemblance with the Skoda MissionL a.k.a Skoda Lauretta.
Dimensions of Skoda Citigo are as follows:
- Length : 3560mm
- Width: 1650mm
- Height: 1480mm high
- Wheelbase: 2420mm
The car offers a boot space of 251 Liters which could be expanded to 951 Liters on completely folding the rear seats.
Talking about the engine options coming with the car, the company will offer two 1.0 Liter MPFI petrol units. The first one can produce a maximum power of 59 BHP. The fuel efficiency and emission of the same are 22.2 KMPL and 105 g CO2 respectively.
The second engine is capable of producing 75 BHP of max power . It has a fuel efficiency of 21.27 KMPL and emits 108 g of CO2.
The car has been highlighted by a new safety feature which Skoda has taken up for the first time in a vehicle. The designers have used a Head-Thorax side airbag which protects the heads of both the driver and the front seat passenger. In addition, a new and enhanced “City Safe Drive” brake assistant system has also been adopted which is activated at speeds below 30 km/h with the help of a laser sensor it identifies any danger of collision. But if it is launched for the Indian market I am sure we would not be getting all these extra features as cost is a major concern here in our market.
All in all it is a good product from Skoda and once the Up gets launched we can expect the same to be introduced by the 2012 end or in 2013. When launched it will go head on with Maruti Wagon R, Honda Brio, Hyundai i10, Volkswagen Polo, Ford Figo etc..
