When it comes to quality sedans, Toyota finds its place in the top ones in the list and the offerings include Toyota Corolla and Toyota Camry. While Toyota Corolla already gets a facelift, the Camry is still untouched and running on the Indian roads with the same old look.
Buzz has it that the next generation Toyota Camry with different look is ready to make its debut in North American market around September this year and the same would hit the India shores not before than mid 2012. One of the officials from Toyota Kirloskar has even confirmed the news. The D segment where the car belongs to has only a couple of players such as Ford Mondeo, Hyundai i45 and Nissan Teana. Skoda Superb is the current market leader and Volkswagen Passat is still busy impressing new buyers with the innovative technologies It features.
The new Camry (To be showcased in North America) is supposed to carry a 2.5 Liter four cylinder with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVTi) developing peak power of 169 BHP. So we believe the model to be brought to India will have appreciable changes on the exterior and marginal changes under the hood(if made any).
Surprisingly Toyota is not planning to go aggressive in the premium segment and will focus all its efforts in establishing Toyota Etios brand including the Etios sedan and Toyota Etios Liva hatchback unveiled on 27th June. The new Camry will be imported from the second quarter of 2012. The company has also made it clear that there are no plans for assembling the car in India and it will enter the country through the CBU route.
