Design and Styling
Design-wise, the Yamaha YZF-R3 is identical to the R25 and it is almost impossible to spot any differences between the two, especially since both the bikes share the same panels, the same diamond type frame and even the dimensions. Styling is inspired from the bigger models in the Yamaha’s YZF-R series and the R3 features a dual headlamps, a sharp narrow tail, stubby silencer, digital-analogue console, 10 spoke alloy wheels and other familiar elements. The motorcycle is available in two color schemes- Racing Blue (combination of blue and white) and Black Lightning (black with red highlights).

Yamaha has announced two new colors for the R3. The new white & blue colour scheme boasts of blue painted alloy wheels while the centre piece of the fuel-tank is white painted. The new matte grey + black color scheme gets minimal decals. These new colors are expected to be available in India sometime next year.
The real difference between the R25 and the R3 exists in terms of performance, with the Yamaha YZF-R3 getting a 321 cc, in-line, 4 stroke, two cylinder engine producing 41.4 bhp at 10,750 rpm and a peak torque of 29.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm. This is around 6 bhp and 8 Nm more than the R25. The engine comes mated to a 6 speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheel via a chain drive. However, the bike misses out on a slipper clutch. Tires come from MRF.
