The Hyundai Verna, Honda City, and the Skoda Slavia have the strongest rivalry in the segment. After the Skoda Slavia made a mark in the C-segment last year, Hyundai is all set to introduce the much-awaited new-gen Verna sedan in the market on March 21, 2023. As per the details revealed by the Korean carmaker so far, the new Verna will not only be larger in size but will also boast a number of cosmetic changes and new features. Once launched, the new Verna will take on the likes of Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the recently launched fifth generation Honda City. The new Verna will be much bigger and more spacious when compared to the last gen model. It measures 4535 mm in length, 1765 mm in width and 1475 mm in height while the wheelbase is now measured at 2670 mm. For a quick comparison, it is now 95mm longer, and 36mm wider than the outgoing model, although the ground clearance remains the same.

It will directly rival the 5th generation Honda City. The City measures 4583 mm in length, 1748 mm in width, 1489 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2600mm. Talking about the same, Skoda Slavia measures 4541 mm in lendth, 1752 mm in width, 1507 mm in height and has a 2651 mm wheelbase. The Honda City is the longest model in this category while the Verna on the other hand has the longest wheelbase in its category. The new Hyundai Verna will get 528-litres of boot space, helping it boast largest in the segment cargo capacity. The new Hyundai Verna will be offered with 2 engine options: a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo engine. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual, CVT with the 1.5L NA petrol and a 7-speed DCT with the turbo petrol. 2023 Honda City Test Drive Review

The new Honda City is also offered with 2 engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre atkinson cycle E:HEV strong hybrid motor. The NA petrol engine is paired with either 6-speed manual or a 7-step CVT gearbox. The power output on the other hand stands at 121 bhp and 145 Nm of torque. The hybrid setup produces 126 bhp and 253 Nm of power and torque respectively.

Both the Volkswagen Slavia and Virtus sedans are sold with 2 engine options, a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo and a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo. Its smaller engine can produce 115 bhp and 175 Nm of torque while the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo engine produces 150bhp and 250 Nm of torque. It is offered with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic with the 1.0L turbo petrol and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with the 1.5L turbo engine.
