New Maruti Swift 18-inch Alloy Wheels

Unique alloy wheels are an important aspect of aftermarket car modifications and the easiest way to transform the appearance of a car.

This new Maruti Swift boasts large 18-inch alloy wheels. The owner of the Swift approached the aftermarket to install these colossal wheels. I have reported on numerous occasions that people use the method of alloy wheels to transform the entire stance of any vehicle. In a way, it is the simplest way to alter the appearance of any car. However, I must also mention here that there are tons of disadvantages of slapping on oversized tyres and wheels on vehicles. For now, let us delve into the specifics of this latest case.

New Maruti Swift w/ 18-inch Wheels

This video comes from Tarun Vlogs3445 on YouTube. It captures the YouTuber with the owner of the Swift. The latter explains all the modifications he has performed on the popular hatchback. On the outside, there are things like a chrome belt underneath the bumper and colossal 18-inch aftermarket alloy wheels. In fact, he mentions that in order to prevent it from rubbing against the brake calliper, it had to be chiselled a little. Clearly, such huge wheels and tyres are not meant for such a compact hatchback.

In fact, the owner informs that he has barely experienced mileage over 8 km/l due to these humungous wheels. That is a common trade-off which a lot of people have to make while installing oversized wheels and tyres. The mass of the vehicle is increased significantly and the engine has to work overtime to produce enough power to move the car. Hence, you will always face a decline in fuel economy. Also, there could be a load on other mechanical components like suspension. Therefore, I wouldn’t recommend such customizations on any cars. Even the interior has been altered with new upholstery, black roof, black A-pillars, LED cabin light, a new steering wheel, etc. He further wants to modify the instrument cluster, ambient lighting and music system.

Our View

Companies go to extensive lengths to perform enormous R&D to come up with the best tyre and wheel size to strike a balance between performance, appearance and mileage. If you tinker with that setting, one aspect is bound to get hit. In the cases of aftermarket modifications and oversized alloy wheels, there will always be an adverse effect on the mileage and performance. The car might feel a little sluggish if it has a relatively smaller engine. Not to mention, most car modifications are illegal in India anyway. Therefore, I would urge my readers to keep these things in mind before going for such alterations.
