Indian roads throw up incredibly horrendous instances at times, and this, unfortunately, belongs to that category
In an absolutely tragic accident, a Tata Nexon was involved in a severe accident with a lorry on a highway. Nexon is a 5-star rated SUV at the Global NCAP. It has been among the most popular vehicles in its class for many years now. People love it due to its striking bold looks, latest features and tech, multiple powertrain options and impressive safety prowess. However, we must understand that high safety ratings can only take you so far. Let us delve into the details of this case.
Tata Nexon Major Accident
This post stems from the_harrier_world on Instagram. I must admit the visuals are spine-chilling. We are only able to witness the front fascia of the car up to the bonnet. Everything beyond that has been reduced to pieces beyond recognition. That highlights the intensity of the impact. Scrolling through the comment section, it becomes clear that this crash took place on the Rayachoti Ghat road in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. The number plate of the car informs us that it belongs to Karnataka.
The post mentions that a heavy lorry, due to brake failure, hit the Nexon from behind at a very high speed. As a consequence, it crushed the rear section of the car completely. In fact, it took around 3 hours to remove the lorry from the back of the car with the help of a JCB / crane. Unfortunately, the comments mention that 5 people died in this accident, while a child survived somehow. Looking at the condition of the car, it becomes clear that it would need a miracle for anyone to survive this.
My View
This atrocious incident is a reminder of why it is imperative to ensure that the health and condition of heavy commercial vehicles are maintained. Had the brakes of the lorry not failed, this entire saga could’ve been avoided. It is high time we start taking road safety seriously and do everything to ascertain that we are not part of the problem. Otherwise, unsuspecting road users, like the occupants of this Tata Nexon, can get adversely affected. Let us pledge to be responsible road users and encourage everyone around us to do the same.
