The Indian automobile giant is planning some distinct launches for our market within the next couple of years
The upcoming Mahindra Vision.S was spotted performing high altitude testing in the treacherous regions of the Himalayas in Leh. I am admittedly excited about the concept vehicles Mahindra displayed at the Freedom_NU event held in Mumbai on August 15 2025. As a part of the Global Vision 2027, the Indian auto giant showcased 4 new concepts – Vision.S, Vision.T, Vision.X and Vision.SXT. In this post, we are focusing on the Vision.S, which Mahindra wants to launch as a muscular compact urban SUV with rugged characteristics.
Mahindra Vision.S Spied Testing
The visuals stem from aayushrajsoni on Instagram. The video encapsulates a heavily camouflaged SUV parked outside a hotel somewhere in the Himalayas. As per the information in the post, it is in Leh, which means that the vehicle is undergoing high-altitude testing. We know that Mahindra often puts its SUVs through tough tests in extreme conditions during the testing phase. I have reported many instances of this practice, particularly before the launch of the Thar Roxx, Scorpio N, XEV 9e and BE6. Hence, it is quite natural that we see the concept Vision.S also being put through its paces in the same manner.
At the front, we witness the round headlamps with vertical slats on the grille. Down below, the camouflage neatly hides the sporty bumper. Interestingly, there is a hood scoop visible through the covering. The side profile demonstrates the butch and upright stance, much similar to the likes of the Land Rover Defender. In fact, during the unveiling, many called it the “Baby Defender”. This is due to the elegant alloy wheels, boxy silhouette, flush-fitting door handles, butch stance and a short rear overhang. The tail end contains a bootlid-mounted spare tyre, something we have seen on Mahindra SUVs in the past.
Expected Specs
Based on the new modular NB_IQ multi-energy platform, the Mahindra Vision.S will come with petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains. At least, that is how Mahindra wants to go ahead. It wants to leave it up to the customers to pick the right version for their varied needs. I am sure that this aspect will enhance the appeal of these concepts significantly. Apart from the new-age tech and convenience amenities, effective safety equipment and striking bold looks will be things to watch out for. The launch is planned for late 2026, which is when we will witness all the details.

Having closely tracked Mahindra’s SUV strategy for well over a decade, I can say with confidence that the Vision.S represents more than just another compact SUV. It’s Mahindra’s calculated move to dominate a high-volume segment with rugged appeal and modern tech. Testing in Leh is no coincidence; Mahindra has long relied on real-world torture tests in the Himalayas to fine-tune its most successful SUVs. With its boxy proportions, multi-energy flexibility, and unmistakable SUV DNA, the Vision.S could very well set new benchmarks in the urban-rugged space when it arrives in 2026.
