The luxury electric SUV will go up against the upcoming BMW iX3
The Mercedes GLC EV was launched in some international markets, like the UK, a couple of days ago. For the Indian market, we are still in the waiting phase. You might remember that the electric GLC was showcased at the Munich Motor Show in Germany. It will be a successor to the EQC electric SUV. Moreover, the buyer will get the option to own the GLC in ICE or electric guise. Hence, the choice will rest with the customers. That is something we have seen many carmakers offer. For now, let us delve into the details of this case.
Mercedes GLC EV Continues Testing
This post stems from theprotohunter on Instagram. The visuals capture the electric SUV plying on the road abroad. What is quite interesting to see is that while the entire body is clearly visible, there is camouflage on the front grille. This grille is made out of 942 backlit dots. Also, the grille has become immensely important this time around since an entire block of the fascia has been dedicated to it. Being an EV, it is clear that it might well be completely sealed off since EVs don’t require fresh air for the engine like ICE cars. In addition to that, there are sleek LED headlamps and a rugged skid plate to lend it a sporty stance.
On the inside, the Mercedes GLC EV boasts all the latest tech and convenience amenities to pamper the occupants. These include elements like a colossal 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which extends from A-pillar to A-pillar, physical buttons and knobs on the steering wheel and centre console, premium materials for the cabin, electrically adjustable seats, etc. Clearly, the owners will feel like they are being driven around in the lap of luxury.

Specs
Based on Mercedes’ MB.EA platform, the new GLC EV is available in multiple configurations, depending on the market it is sold in. In the most powerful setting, the GLC 400 4MATIC will have a 94 kWh NMC battery pack with a decent range of 713 km (WLTP) on a single charge. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive avatar produces 490 hp of peak power, while the single-motor rear-wheel-drive GLC 300+ generates 374 hp. The owners can use a 400 V or 800 V charger with a peak capacity of 330 kW. Charging from 10% to 80% just takes 24 minutes. In fact, adding a range of up to 303 km just takes 10 minutes. More details will emerge in the coming days.

Having closely tracked Mercedes’ electrification strategy over the years, I see the GLC EV as a far more crucial product for India than the earlier EQC ever was. With its familiar nameplate, advanced MB.EA architecture, and impressive real-world range, it has the potential to finally give Mercedes a strong foothold in the luxury EV segment. However, pricing and localisation will be key, unless Mercedes manages to assemble it here competitively, the GLC EV could risk becoming yet another niche halo product rather than a true segment leader.
