New 2026 Renault Duster Stuck in Snow Rescued by Maruti Gypsy

It is common for new cars to perform road tests in the upper reaches of the Himalayas to ensure uncompromising performance even in extreme weather conditions

A video has surfaced online which showcases an upcoming new SUV stuck in snow at Rohtang Pass. From the looks of it, the test vehicle is a 2026 Renault Duster or the Nissan Tekton. The video shows the vehicle being rescued by a Maruti Gypsy. We know that both Nissan and the French auto giant have announced a new global SUV for our market. While the Duster is already on sale abroad but is yet to make it to our market, the Tekton, which is its derivative, is still to make its debut. As a consequence, both the vehicles are being tested extensively before launching in India. Typically, carmakers send their test mules to the higher altitude regions of the Himalayas. That is exactly how the new Duster arrived in Manali.

New 2026 Renault Duster/Nissan Tekton Test Mule Stuck in Snow, Maruti Gypsy Rescues

The video stems from downshifters60mph on YouTube. The visuals showcase a bright day near Rohtang Pass in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. It is one of the most famous and beautiful passes in the region. Known for its walls of snow during the peak winter season, the pass can swiftly become perilous if you are not equipped with the right attire and vehicle. In this instance, we see the test mule of the new Renault Duster/Nissan Tekton getting stuck in thick snow. It is understandable that the tyres lost traction. Hence, another car is generally needed to pull such vehicles out.

That is where the old Maruti Gypsy comes into the picture. It is seen with a rope tied to its front, which is connected to the rear of the test mule. Slowly but steadily, the lightweight off-roader is able to pull the SUV out onto the main road. Thankfully, the main road is devoid of snow. It is quite common for people to purchase cars like the Gypsy and the new Jimny in mountain states like Himachal Pradesh. These SUVs are capable, practical and relatively affordable. Hence, you will see them getting immensely popular in the hilly areas.

My View

Now I must mention here that we can’t jump to any conclusions regarding the capabilities of the new Renault Duster or the Nissan Tekton based on such isolated videos. It is actually really common for all sorts of cars to get buried in snow during the winter months in the Himalayas. Due to a lack of traction, it becomes impossible to drive these automobiles. Hence, other cars like the Gypsy are needed for the rescue operation. We will come to know more details about the new Duster/Tekton in the coming months.

Editor’s Note

Having witnessed the Duster’s journey in India since its debut, I know just how significant this comeback is for Renault. The Duster built its reputation on durability and real-world capability, so it’s natural to see its prototypes (or that of the Tekton) undergoing harsh-weather tests in the Himalayas. Getting stuck in deep snow is hardly unusual, even seasoned off-roaders face that challenge. What truly matters is how the new Duster performs once it officially hits our roads, and I expect Renault to ensure it lives up to the legacy that made it a household name among Indian SUV buyers.
