In this post, I am comparing the newly launched Mahindra XEV 9S with the BE 6 in terms of specs, prices and features. Mahindra has been launching new EVs based on its INGLO architecture for a while now. At present, there are three products under the XEV and BE ranges – XEV 9e, XEV 9S and BE 6. The XEV 9e and BE 6 have achieved a cumulative sales of a whopping 30,000 units in just 7 months. That is a testament to how well the buyers have embraced these products. For now, let us take a look at the details of this comparison.

Mahindra XEV 9S vs BE 6 – Price

The new Mahindra XEV 9S retails between Rs 19.95 lakh and Rs 29.45 lakh, ex-showroom. These are introductory prices for a limited period of time. On the other hand, the Mahindra BE 6 ranges from Rs 18.90 lakh to Rs 27.65 lakh, ex-showroom. Hence, the BE 6 bears a slight advantage in this regard.

Mahindra XEV 9S vs BE 6 – Specs

The Mahindra XEV 9S is offered with three battery options – 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh, delivering a claimed MIDC range of 521 km, 600 km and 679 km, respectively. All variants drive the rear wheels but differ in output, producing 170 kW (231 PS), 180 kW (245 PS) and 210 kW (285 PS), while torque remains constant at 380 Nm. Using a 180 kW DC fast charger, the 70 kWh and 79 kWh packs can charge from 20% to 80% in 20 minutes, while the 59 kWh pack achieves the same with a 140 kW charger. In its strongest tune, the XEV 9S sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 202 km/h.

On the other hand, the Mahindra BE 6 comes with two battery options – 59 kWh and 79 kWh. Built on the INGLO platform, it features BYD’s Blade Cell technology with LFP chemistry. Power output ranges from 228 hp / 380 Nm with the smaller pack to 281 hp / 380 Nm with the larger one. Claimed range stands at 535 km and 682 km (550 km WLTP), respectively, while a 175 kW DC fast charger can replenish the 79 kWh pack from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes. You also get three drive modes – Range, Everyday and Race, with the sharpest setting enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 6.7 seconds.

My View

Now, choosing between these two electric SUVs is quite intriguing. I believe there are specific use cases for these SUVs. Those who want a practical SUV would ideally want the Mahindra XEV 9S. It is certainly meant for large families. On the other hand, the Mahindra BE 6 is for those who want a sporty vehicle with stunning looks. In any case, both these have their distinct personalities and I would encourage our readers to experience the two in the flesh and make the decision according to their individual needs.
