New Tata Punch Facelift vs Maruti Fronx - Specs, Price, Features Comparison

The new Tata Punch comes with a few design tweaks, along with some added functionalities to attract new customers

In this post, we compare the new Tata Punch facelift and the Maruti Fronx on the basis of specs, price, features, etc. This market segment has gained immense popularity in our country in the last few years. People get attracted to the SUV-ish traits of these cars at relatively affordable prices. Also, the butch stance and decent ground clearance make them pretty practical for daily usage. That is why they have been selling much more than hatchbacks. Tata Motors launched the facelift of the Punch, which was due for a long time. For now, let us delve deep into this comparison.

New Tata Punch Facelift vs Maruti Fronx – Price Comparison

The new Tata Punch facelift starts at Rs 5.59 lakh and goes up to Rs 10.54 lakh, ex-showroom. These are almost similar prices to the outgoing model despite the updates. On the other hand, the Maruti Fronx ranges between Rs 6.85 lakh and Rs 11.98 lakh, ex-showroom. New Tata Punch Facelift vs Maruti Fronx – Specs Comparison

The new Tata Punch facelift is available with multiple powertrain and transmission alternatives. These include a 1.2-litre NA petrol, a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.2-litre petrol + CNG mills, which generate 88 PS / 115 Nm, 120 PS / 170 Nm and 74 PS / 103 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The NA petrol and CNG engines can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox. However, the turbo petrol is currently available with a sole 6-speed manual transmission. Hence, the needs of all sorts of buyers can be met. Note that the dual-cylinder technology ensures that the Punch CNG remains practical and spacious.

On the other hand, the Maruti Fronx is also available with several engine and gearbox options. However, the range does not include a diesel motor. It is powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol unit. The power and torque outputs stand at 90 PS / 113 Nm and 100 PS / 147 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. With the NA petrol engine, buyers get a 5-speed manual or an AMT option, while the turbo petrol engine is offered with a 5-speed manual and an automatic gearbox. Do note that a CNG variant is also available with the 1.2-litre engine, delivering 78 PS and 99 Nm of peak power and torque. Fuel efficiency figures range from 21.79 kmpl for the petrol manual to 28.51 km/kg for the CNG version.

My View

Choosing between these two compelling propositions can be quite interesting. Both these vehicles are on sale with NA petrol, turbo petrol and CNG mills. Hence, all sorts of buyers can pick the one which suits their driving styles the best. Apart from that, by virtue of being the bigger car, the Fronx is certainly more practical on the inside and has a more imposing road presence. Nevertheless, one has to shell out more to get their hands on it, too. On the other hand, the Punch is a decent value-for-money proposition for someone looking for an all-round package. In any case, I would advise our readers to visit their nearest dealerships to experience the two in the flesh to make an informed decision.

Editor’s Note

Yatharth Chauhan, Managing Editor

Having closely followed the rise of this micro-SUV/crossover space in India, I see this comparison as a clash between value-driven practicality and aspirational appeal. The Punch facelift strengthens Tata’s position with safety, features, and aggressive pricing, making it a smart urban buy. The Fronx, meanwhile, caters to buyers who want more space, stronger brand pull, and a premium feel. Your choice should ultimately hinge on budget, space needs, and whether value or polish matters more to you.
