The Japanese car marque has launched the new Tekton mid-size SUV for India, which is based on the Renault Duster
In this post, we take a look at the details of the new Nissan Tekton and compare it with the segment leader, the Hyundai Creta, on the basis of price, features, specs, etc. The mid-size SUV is among the most crowded spaces in our market. People who aspire to replace or upgrade from their entry-level cars or even compact hatchbacks generally opt for vehicles from this segment. Nissan is in the process of expanding its footprint in India with a few new launches. The Tekton is certainly one product with which it aims to churn out large volumes. On the other hand, the Hyundai Creta has been the segment leader for many years now. Let us compare how these two stack up against one another.
Nissan Tekton vs Hyundai Creta – Specs Comparison
Let us start with what powers the Nissan Tekton. Note that it shares the powertrain and transmission options with the Renault Duster. Hence, it gets two turbo petrol engine options – a 1.0-litre (T160) and a 1.3-litre (T280). These mills produce 100 PS / 166 Nm and 163 PS / 280 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Performing transmission duties with the T160 engine is a sole 6-speed manual gearbox, while the T280 version can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Another key aspect extremely useful on Indian roads is the 212 mm ground clearance. The mileage figures are also decent at 19.4 kml with the T160 and 17.8 km/l with T280 MT and 18.5 km/l with T280 DCT.
The Hyundai Creta, meanwhile, comes with a well-established range of 1.5-litre engine options. These include a naturally aspirated petrol unit producing 115 PS and 144 Nm, a diesel engine developing 116 PS and 250 Nm, and a more performance-oriented turbo-petrol motor that churns out 160 PS and 253 Nm. Hyundai also offers an extensive selection of transmission choices, including a 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT, 6-speed automatic, CVT, and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. With such a diverse combination of engine and transmission options, the Creta appeals to buyers with varying driving needs and preferences. The mileage ranges from 17.4 km/l to 21.8 km/l.

My View
Choosing between these two compelling propositions can be a bit confusing for many potential car buyers. However, the final choice depends on our personal preferences. If you want an established product with tons of modern-day amenities and powerful petrol and diesel mills, the Hyundai Creta makes a lot of sense for you. However, if you want something fresh and don’t want a diesel mill, the new Nissan Tekton fits the bill rather well. In any case, I would advise our readers to visit their nearest showrooms and experience the two in the flesh.

The arrival of the Nissan Tekton has certainly injected fresh competition into the mid-size SUV segment, which has long been dominated by the Hyundai Creta. On paper, the Tekton impresses with its bold design, powerful turbo-petrol engines, generous ground clearance and an extensive feature list at a competitive price point. However, the Creta continues to hold a strong advantage thanks to its proven reliability, wider powertrain choices, established after-sales network and immense popularity among Indian buyers. If you are looking for something new and distinctive, the Tekton deserves serious consideration, but the Creta remains the benchmark all-rounder in this segment.
