Currently, the Bajaj Pulsar series range from 125cc to 250cc models, with products based on modern as well as earlier generation platforms

Bajaj Auto’s MD, Rajiv Bajaj, is gearing up for a significant move in the motorcycle market. He has promised six new Pulsar motorcycle launches by the end of this financial year. Among them, the most anticipated could be the “biggest ever Pulsar,” potentially housing a robust 400cc engine. It may be noted here that rumours of a Bajaj Pulsar RS400 being on the anvil have been doing rounds of the web forever now. Also, with the Pulsar range already having a 250cc contender, the 400cc version is the obvious step ahead.

Bajaj Pulsar RS400 the ‘Biggest Ever Pulsar’ Promised by Rajiv Bajaj?

The Pulsar brand has a strong following among motorcycle enthusiasts in India and globally. Bajaj has offered Pulsar motorcycles in the 125cc to 250cc range. Now, with the announcement of the “biggest ever Pulsar,” there’s a clear indication that Bajaj is thinking beyond its existing lineup. Rajiv Bajaj’s reference to the “biggest ever Pulsar” is likely about engine displacement rather than physical size. This suggests that the new Pulsar might boast an engine larger than 250cc. Given Bajaj’s previous collaborations with KTM, this Pulsar could share powertrain architecture with models like the Triumph Speed 400 and KTM 390.

There are exciting possibilities for this new Pulsar. It could be a fully-faired version of the Dominar 400, marketed under the Pulsar brand. Alternatively, it might adopt the design and chassis of the RS200 or NS200, but with a more substantial engine. Rajiv Bajaj is optimistic about this new addition to the Pulsar family. He aims to launch it within this financial year to gauge its potential and profitability. Additionally, Bajaj Auto is actively exploring opportunities in the premium motorcycle segment, aiming for models beyond 200cc and values exceeding Rs. 1.7 lakh.

400cc Pulsar Could Share Engine With Triumph Speed 400

The prospect of a 400cc Pulsar, possibly priced around Rs. 2 lakh (ex-showroom), is indeed enticing. While a cost-effective approach will be to share parts with the Dominar 400, the performance-focussed nature of the Pulsar brand could push Bajaj to look at the Triumph Speed 400 instead. Hence, this motorcycle could feature a 399cc single-cylinder engine that has been co-developed with Triumph. The introduction of a 40 hp Pulsar, complete with USDs, slipper clutch, and ride-by-wire throttle, could open new horizons for Bajaj in the premium motorcycle market.
