Bajaj Triumph Partnership

Popular Indian two wheeler manufacturer, Bajaj Auto Ltd and renowned British bike marque, Triumph, today announced a new global partnership. This Bajaj Triumph partnership will be responsible for a range of upcoming middle weight motorcycles. This non-equity partnership will see both the manufacturers leveraging each other’s strengths to develop and sell world-class products at attractive price points. A press statement issued by the two companies went on to state that two “hope to bring to bear upon global markets the individual strengths of the partners including brand position and perception, design and development technology, quality and cost competitiveness and worldwide distribution.โ€

Bajaj Triumph Partnership – What to Expect?

More details aren’t available at the moment. But what we know for sure is that the aim of this partnership will be to “deliver a range of outstanding mid-capacity motorcycles benefitting from the collective strengths of both companies”.

It’s noteworthy here that this isn’t the first time that a popular Indian two-wheeler company has joined hands with a renowned European motorcycle manufacturer. South India-based TVS Motor Company has been in a partnership with BMW-Motorrad to co-develop world class low displacement motorcycles. The BMW G 310R is a result of this partnership. The G 310R is already on sale in Western markets and is expected to launch in India next year. Bajaj and Triumph could have a similar arrangement, where the latter could use engineering and mass production facilities of the former.

Bajaj Triumph Partnership – Beneficial to Both Parties

It’s very much for sure that both the motorcycle manufacturers will benefit from this partnership.ย While the Bajaj Triumph partnership will help Triumph expand its worldwide reach by entering high volume segments, Bajaj is sure to benefit from Triumph’s technical prowess and experience of building world-class premium motorcycles. Also, thanks to the partnership, Bajaj is likely to find it easier to infiltrate premium bike segments in emerging markets like that of India and South America.

Triumph UK

Currently, Triumph UK offers a range of bikes in theย classic, roadsters, supersport, cruiser and adventure segments. Currently, the smallest bike in the manufacturer’s portfolio, the Daytona, is a supersport offering that has aย 675 cc in-line three-cylinder engine. The smallest bike in the classic range of Triumph bikes is the Street twin, which has a 900cc engine. In the recent past, Triumph did try to come up with a small capacity motorcycle for emerging markets like that of India. However, the project was axed owing to low feasibility.

Bajaj Auto Ltd

On the other hand, Bajaj has been very successful with its low capacity motorcycles. The Pulsar model range, which comprises of bikes from 135cc to 220cc, has garnered a huge fan following in the country. Even its commuter motorcycles, which mostly displace 100-110cc, have found many takers. The biggest bike in BAL’s stable is the Dominar 400, which is basically a 373cc motorcycle that borrows in plenty from the KTM 390 Duke. We are now hoping Triumph to benefit Bajaj in a manner similar to how KTM has been of great advantage to one of the most popular bike brands of India.

Bajaj already owns almost 48% of KTM, and now, with the new Bajaj Triumph partnership, the manufacturer is sure to help the Indian company make an identity for itself even in the international space. Stay tuned for more on the Bajaj Triumph Partnership.
