The performance electric sedan has been on sale in our market since March 2024
BYD has issued a voluntary recall for the Seal electric sedan in India. The EV maker has been growing rapidly in our market. It has launched many products to expand its portfolio across a diverse range of segments. The aim is to cater to the varying needs of all sorts of buyers in private as well as commercial spaces. The Chinese auto giant is among the biggest electrified carmakers on the planet. In India, it offers the Atto 3, Seal, eMAX 7 and Sealion 7. For now, let us take a look at the details of this case.
BYD Seal Recalled in India
The Chinese carmaker has announced a voluntary recall for the Seal due to potential issues with the high-voltage Blade battery. It is still unknown how many cars are affected. Still, the company has asked the owners of the Seal EV to get their vehicles inspected at the authorized service workshops. The technicians will run the OBD (On-board Diagnosis) to scan for any defects in the battery cells of the EV. If that is the case, BYD will replace the entire battery free of cost. Interestingly, if the car owners are occupied, BYD India will arrange for a pickup and drop-off service and the entire process will be completed the same day for minimum inconvenience.
The BYD Seal is available with two battery pack options – 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh. Furthermore, there are single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD configurations on offer. The RWD version with a smaller battery pack generates 150 kW (201 hp) / 310 Nm, while with the bigger battery, it makes 230 kW (308 hp) / 360 Nm and the performance-focused AWD delivers 390 kW (523 hp) / 670 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. In the most aggressive settings, the electric sedan goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Charging capabilities are undertaken by a 150 kW or 110 kW DC fast charger. The prices range from Rs 41 lakh to Rs 53.15 lakh, ex-showroom.

Recalls, especially voluntary ones, are an inevitable part of introducing new-age EV technology in a still-maturing market like India. BYD’s approach here, proactive communication, full battery replacement, and same-day resolution, signals growing confidence and seriousness about long-term brand building. For a premium EV priced north of ₹40 lakh, this level of aftersales commitment is not just welcome, it’s absolutely essential. How transparently and efficiently such cases are handled will ultimately shape Indian buyers’ trust in global EV players like BYD.
