"Call of Duty" Co-founder Dies in Fatal Ferrari 296 GTS Crash

The tragic accident occurred on the Angeles Crest Highway on Sunday

In a rather unfortunate turn of events, “Call of Duty” co-creator, Vince Zampella, was killed in a fatal road accident in his Ferrari 296 GTS on Sunday afternoon. Zampella was famous for his love for sports cars as he regularly posted with his ostentatious automobiles on his social media handles. Vince, along with Jason West and former creative partner Grant Collier, co-founded the original “Call of Duty” studio, Infinity Ward in 2002. Since then, this game has spawned dozens of sequels and spin-offs across various consoles and platforms. In fact, the game has gone on to become one of the biggest first-person shooter games in the history.

A video by labreezetv on Instagram has been going viral on social media. It captures the exact moment of the crash of the red Ferrari 296 GTS. The visuals showcase the sports car emerging out of a tunnel at high speed. Unfortunately, the car veered off to the side of the road and ended up colliding with the concrete barrier. It caught fire instantly and the two occupants succumbed to their injuries. This is an immensely heartbreaking episode and the entire gaming world is mourning the death of the key visionary and leader.

The Ferrari 296 GTS is a performance sports car, owned by some top driving enthusiastic elites around the globe. Under its sculpted hood, you will find a 3.0-litre V6 engine with an electric motor at the rear, which generates a mammoth 830 hp and 740 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This mill pairs with an 8-speed DCT gearbox, enabling a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 2.9 seconds. The Italian sports carmaker claims a top speed of a whopping 330 km/h. In India, the car costs well over Rs 5.40 Crore, ex-showroom.

My View

First and foremost, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Vince Zampella. He is survived by his three children, Quentin, 26, Kyle, 22, and Courtney, 19. However, I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight the terrible consequences of driving recklessly. We see thousands of road crashes each year. In most of these cases, the lives could have been saved if the person driving the car had followed traffic rules. Therefore, let us pledge to be responsible drivers and ensure that our roads become safe.
