Performance vehicles must always be driven carefully, especially on public roads
In a rather tragic turn of events, a father and a son were involved in a brutal crash inside their Ferrari 296 GTB in Kolkata. I have reported numerous instances of performance car owners often getting entangled in such situations, primarily due to overspeeding. We know that Indian roads can be immensely unpredictable and people seldom flout traffic regulations. Hence, extra caution has to be exercised if you are driving an accelerating monster. For now, let us take a look at the details of this case here.
Father-Son Duo Crash Ferrari 296 GTB
The visuals of this case stem from thetatvaindia on Instagram. As per the information in the caption, this incident occurred on Wednesday at around 7:40 am in Kolkata. High speed is being said to be the reason for this crash. In fact, the collision was so severe that the blue Ferrari uprooted a tree before hitting the race course perimeter wall. While the occupants escaped with some injuries courtesy of airbags getting deployed timely, some pedestrians weren’t as lucky.
Amrit Singh Saini, 48, was behind the wheel and his son was in the passenger seat. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Alipore with four rib fractures and his son also suffered some minor injuries. On the other hand, a pedestrian, Rashida Bibi, 55, of South 24-Parganas, has been admitted to SSKM Hospital with serious injuries. The Police confirmed that the Ferrari 296 GTB is registered with the Mumbai (Central) RTO in July 2024. The investigation is underway and the CCTV footage is being assessed to determine the root cause of this accident. Also, the carmaker will be consulted to obtain dashcam footage.
My View
Indian roads are infamous for being extremely dangerous due to people disregarding traffic regulations on a daily basis. Among lakhs of lives lost in road crashes each year, the main reason is often overspeeding. This is particularly the case with luxury and powerful cars. It is high time we start adhering to the rules vehemently. This is something we need to encourage everyone around us to do, too. Let us pledge to be responsible road users and contribute to enhancing road safety.

Having covered high-performance cars in India for over a decade and a half, I’ve seen far too many supercar incidents follow the same pattern, sheer power meeting unpredictable road conditions. The 296 GTB is a brilliant machine, but our public roads are simply not the place to explore its limits. Unfortunately, such crashes reinforce what I’ve long maintained: until drivers respect speed and understand our infrastructure’s constraints, even the most advanced safety systems can’t prevent tragedy.
