Digital automobile artists have a knack for creating intriguing iterations of familiar vehicles
I recently came across a rather impressive digital iteration of the Hindustan Ambassador with electric credentials. We know that the Ambassador holds iconic status in our country. For decades, it was the aspirational car by virtue of being one of the first cars in the country. Note that it appeared in our market back in 1957. Before its discontinuation in 2014, it used to be the go-to product for government officials in most parts of the country. In Kolkata, we see it in the yellow taxi avatar even today. For now, let us experience it in a modern avatar.
Hindustan Ambassador Imagined in Electric Avatar
We are able to witness this unique virtual illustration courtesy of SRK Designs on YouTube. The artist often imagines distinct versions of familiar cars. On this occasion, he took the age-old Hindustan Ambassador and recreated it to suit the current era. At the front, I find the round LED headlamp somewhat similar to the Mini Cooper. Also, the round edges point towards the same direction. In this video, we only get to see the side profile. Another key aspect is the flush-fitting door handles, which unequivocally indicate the latest design language.
Apart from that, the squarish wheel arches neatly encapsulate elegant and contemporary alloy wheels. Furthermore, the generous use of chrome doesn’t go unnoticed. We see it on the side body cladding and around the window frame. Towards the rear, there is a shark fin antenna, an extended tail end with LED taillamps and a sloping roofline. I find it interesting that there are no characteristic creases on the sides. In any case, this is quite a thoughtful rendition of the icon.
My View
I have been reporting about virtual conceptualizations of prominent cars for a while. The best part about these renditions is that the artists are not bound by physical limitations. Hence, they can let their creativity flow. As a consequence, we are able to get unfathomable iterations of everyday cars. Going forward, I shall keep an eye out for more such instances.
