How to Fix Carburettor Issue with E20 Fuel on Royal Enfield

Some four-wheeler and two-wheeler users have reported a few issues after using E20 fuel in their vehicles

In this post, we take a look at the details of how to fix the issues pertaining to the carburettor after using E20 fuel on a Royal Enfield. Ever since the introduction of E20 fuel at petrol stations in the country, there have been many news reports about its long-term effect on the engine. While it helps India reduce crude oil imports and manage emissions better, there have been some real-world negative implications, which many industry experts and customers have highlighted. In fact, that is the reason why we had a huge backlash over making it compulsory to sell only E20 fuel at fuel stations.

How to Fix Carburettor Issue with E20 Fuel on Royal Enfield?

This post stems from MUNDODI VLOGS on YouTube. The owner of this channel is an avid reader of our blogs and is an automobile enthusiast. He often performs customization on bikes and cars. On this occasion, he mentions that his Royal Enfield has been giving him issues for the past few weeks. These include things like low pick-up, poor mileage, a hard morning start and the bike not starting without the choke. Understandably, this made him a bit nervous. Hence, he visited his trusted mechanic and got the bike tested. After checking the electricals, it was ascertained that there was an issue with the carburettor.

Therefore, the carburettor was removed to inspect the internals. That is when they were shocked to discover liquid inside the float bowl (float chamber) of the carburettor. In fact, the host claims that the only reason for this could be the use of E20 fuel, which contains 20% ethanol. Due to the rust, the carburettor could easily be choked, causing the pre-mentioned issues. Opening the part even further, the speed jet had also accumulated some undesired particles. Therefore, after a thorough cleaning, the motorcycle was fixed. Eventually, the host also mentions that while Royal Enfield has started offering an E20-compatible carburettor, it is time to address the issue of the tank rust, too.

My View

Now, we know that using E20 fuel has been causing some issues in many cars and two-wheelers. This is understandable since the existing mechanical components are not all E20-compatible. Hence, over time, problems start developing. Modern cars already come with E20-compliant parts. Therefore, the issues are just restricted to relatively older automobiles. I must advise our readers to be a bit careful regarding such situations and take timely action if you see any unusual symptoms.
