Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) marks the 10th anniversary of the Hyundai Creta. One of India’s most popular mid-size SUVs, it has sold over 1.2 million copies since its launch in July 2015. Quick calculations shows this translates to an average of approximately 329 vehicles sold every day over the last decade.
Hyundai Creta Commands Over 31% Market Share in its Segment
The Creta has maintained its position as the highest-selling mid-size SUV in India every full calendar year since launch. It has achieved what Hyundai describes as “undisputed leadership” in the segment. In 2024, Hyundai sold 186,919 units of the Creta, more than double the 92,926 units sold in 2016. The model currently commands over 31% market share in the mid-size SUV segment. From January to June 2025, the Creta was not only the best-selling SUV but also the top-selling model across all passenger vehicle categories in three out of six months. During this period, 70% of sales came from sunroof-equipped variants, indicating growing consumer preference for premium features. The proportion of first-time car buyers choosing the Creta has also increased, rising from 12% in 2020 to 29% in 2024.
The Creta is available in petrol, diesel, turbo, and electric powertrain options. There are both manual and automatic transmissions on offer. The vehicle is manufactured in India and exported to over 13 countries, with 287,000+ units exported since inception. To commemorate the milestone, Hyundai has announced several campaigns, including a user-generated content contest titled ‘Creta X Memories’, and a Legacy Drive involving a convoy of 100 Creta vehicles. The celebratory convoy will depart from HMIL’s Gurgaon headquarters on July 26, 2025. Now in its second generation, the Creta continues to evolve with special editions like the Knight Edition and Adventure Edition.

Speaking on the CRETA’s 10-year milestone, Mr. Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, “Hyundai CRETA is more than a model, it is a living legacy, crafted with care, evolved with technology and backed by millions of customers who made it their own. The Hyundai CRETA represents ambition, progress and trust. As India’s SUV ambitions grew, CRETA too grew with them and if I may dare say often grew ahead of these ambitions.
