Jetour T2 ANCAP Safety Rating

The Indian SUV market is booming as more and more new players keep entering

The Jetour T2 is slated to be the next foreign SUV to make its entry into the burgeoning Indian automobile market. Being a part of the Chinese carmaker, Chery, it will arrive on our shores in collaboration with JSW Motors. That is something we have seen with the MG cars as well. The Jetour T2 is already on sale in a few parts of the world. Hence, we know that it comes with hybrid and full-electric powertrains. As part of the latest marketing campaigns, Jetour has been showcasing the rugged capabilities of the T2 on social media. That has been confirmed by the 5-star safety performance at the ASEAN NCAP.

India-Bound Jetour T2 Tested at ASEAN NCAP

The Jetour T2 scored an impressive 29.74 points out of 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection, 40.63 points out of 51 in Child Occupant Protection, 18 points out of 21 in Safety Assist and 13 points out of 16 in Motorcyclist Safety categories. This ensured an overall score of 86.50 points. All these results enabled a full 5-star safety rating. In addition to this, the Blind Spot Detection Assessment, Autonomous Emergency Braking Assessment, CRS Installation Assessment and Dynamic Test Assessment procedures were also followed. Hence, a thorough investigation was conducted by the ASEAN NCAP to reward the SUV with a 5-star safety rating.

Apart from this official testing, the internet has been flooded with bizarre and creative posts encapsulating weird testing protocols by automobile media and influencers. These include things like throwing the SUV off the cliff into a forest to test its build quality in a raw manner. Overall, the results have been impressive, to say the least. There has been minimal damage to the shell and even the battery pack (in the plug-in hybrid version) was secure. There are many such videos online which demonstrate the build quality and strength of the SUV, making it utilitarian for off-road usage.

JSW Jetour T2 – Design and Features

On the outside, the international model carries a rugged appearance and a boxy silhouette. This incorporates a broad front grille with square LED headlamps and a sporty bumper with plenty of rugged elements. On the inside, the JSW Jetour T2 will come with tons of modern-day amenities including a panoramic sunroof, a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, a 10.25-inch driver’s instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, multi-purpose steering wheel, Level 2 ADAS, hill start assist, hill descent control and much more.

Expected Specs and Price

Even though the Jetour T2 is available as a PHEV and EV in international markets, it is assumed that the Indian model will get the sole PHEV configuration. This could be the 1.5-litre turbo petrol mill with a 26.7 kWh battery pack for a combined output of around 154 hp and 220 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. There could be options between a single-motor front-wheel-drive or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version. Interestingly, the PHEV boasts an all-electric NEDC-certified range of 139 km. JSW Motors wants to position it in the price range of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 30 lakh and the launch is planned by Diwali 2026. More details will emerge in the coming days.

In my experience tracking the Indian auto industry for over a decade, new entrants often rely heavily on aggressive marketing to build early buzz. However, a credible 5-star ASEAN NCAP score does lend substance to Jetourโ€™s claims about the T2โ€™s ruggedness and safety credentials. That said, cracking the highly competitive โ‚น15-30 lakh SUV space in India will require much more than strong crash-test results, it will ultimately depend on pricing, localization, and the strength of the JSW-backed distribution network. If executed well, the Jetour T2 could become an interesting disruptor in a segment currently dominated by established players.
