Maruti is expected to launch the Jimny 5-Door in the coming months. Now, details of its engine have been revealed.

The Jimny is one of the most awaited cars from Maruti Suzuki. However, the 3-door SUV sold abroad isn’t headed our way anytime soon. Instead, Maruti Suzuki is planning to bring a bigger model to the our market. The 5-door variant of the Jimny has already been spotted on our roads during its testing phase. While it will likely launch in India in the first-half of next year, it will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 in January. Several details of the upcoming car have already started leaking online. As per recent reports, the Maruti Jimny 5-Door will be powered by a K15B petrol engine. This is the same engine that is available on the 3-door version sold abroad. It was even available on the now defunct Maruti Vitara Brezza.

In fact, the K15B has powered several Maruti models in the past. Recently, though, the company upgraded to the advanced K15C DualJet engine for most of its models. Surprisingly, though, the India-spec Maruti Jimny 5-Door will likely get the K15B 1,462 cc, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. This motor offers 102 Ps of maximum power and 130 Nm of peak torque. It will be paired with a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission. It must be noted here that the 6-speed automatic transmission is only available with the K15C series engine. Right now, the Maruti Ciaz is the only car to be powered by the K15B petrol engine.

Additionally, the India-spec Maruti Jimny 5-Door will be offered with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system. It comes with a proper low-ratio transfer case. Both manual and automatic versions will come with this feature. Unlike the AllGrip system of the Grand Vitara, the AllGrip 4WD system feature is more suited for off-roading. The mild hybrid system of the off-road SUV is said to increase the overall fuel efficiency when compared to competitors. The India-spec Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door will compete with SUVs like Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha 5-door in the segment. Mahindra is also working to bring a more practical five-door version of its popular Thar model to the Indian market.
