Kia Launches Wire-to-Wireless Adapter for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

New-age customers want smartphone connectivity for Android and iOS on their cars, regardless of which variant they opt for

Kia has finally introduced a new wire-to-wireless adapter for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Korean auto giant, surprisingly, doesn’t offer wireless smartphone connectivity in even the top trims of most of its models. That is quite weird since many car models from other car marques have this amenity. Kia makes some of the most feature-laden vehicles in the country. That is what most people get attracted to. Hence, a missing feature like this sticks out like a sore thumb.

Now, Kia has been able to achieve this feat courtesy of an accessory that needs to be plugged into the USB slot. This tiny device will ensure a seamless instant availability of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hence, Kia car owners will no longer need to carry the cable around. Admittedly, it makes the centre console look a bit messy. Also, carrying a wire around is cumbersome. Therefore, a permanent solution was needed. Kia is retailing the adapter for Rs 4,344. I am sure that most people would buy it instantly.

Note that apart from the new Syros, the mass market cars like the Carens, Seltos and Sonet didn’t offer the customers the ability to use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly despite offering wireless charging. No wonder the customers complained about it strongly. As a consequence, the Korean auto giant had to react. The best option was to offer a quality accessory. I must also mention here that such devices are available in the aftermarket from other companies as well.

This one little addition to the accessory list will surely go a long way. We know that today’s buyers just want the top convenience, connectivity and comfort amenities in their vehicles, even if they are not going for the top variants. Consequently, carmakers often offer value-for-money products. Nevertheless, when there is no scope for adding a new feature entirely, an accessory route is appropriate. That is exactly what Kia has done. Let us see how well the customers embrace it.
