Mahindra has been doing excellent work in various international markets including Australia where the Scorpio N and XUV700 are its star products.

Mahindra Scorpio N might score 0 stars at the Australian NCAP testing even though it has scored a full 5-star safety rating at the Global NCAP recently. Scorpio N has done exceptionally well in the Indian market ever since its launch. Recognizing the love people have showered on the Scorpio N and XUV700, Mahindra is also exporting these SUVs to Australia where it has had a presence for a long time now. However, it was more active in manufacturing heavy-duty agricultural products or rugged SUVs like the last-gen Scorpio in multiple boy types. Scorpio N and XUV700 represent the latest-gen models from the Indian auto giant.

Mahindra Scorpio N at Australian NCAP

This video clip has been uploaded by Prateek Singh as YouTube Shorts. The vlogger mentions that the SUV might score 0 stars at the ANCAP. We dug into the nitty-gritty of this entire saga to find out why that could be the case. The safety testing authority in Australia, ANCAP, has laid down the framework for testing any new car. As a part of that procedures, all cars are required to have active safety features like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Support System (LSS), Automatic Emergency Steering (AES), Speed Assistance System (SAS), Driver Monitoring System and more.

At the moment, Mahindra doesn’t offer these features on the Scorpio N. However, it equips these ADAS features on the XUV700. Interestingly, Mahindra launched the Scorpio N before these rules came into effect. Therefore, it is allowed to sell in the Australian market. After March 1, 2023, all new models of vehicles will need to have AEB and post March 1, 2025, every other new car must have this feature. By then, Mahindra will install these active safety features on the Scorpio N too. Hence, it might score well on the ANCAP, but that won’t be due to its build quality.

What We Think

We think that Mahindra has played a smart move to at least launch the Scorpio N in the Australian market before these regulations came into being. Now, it will get a chance to gauge the response of the general public. Going by the reviews by the media houses thus far, the Scorpio N is well on its way to challenge the prominent players and giving them a run for their money on the back of its latest features, powerful engines, off-roading capabilities and affordability. Going forward, we are certain that the Indian auto giant is slated to become an eminent player Down Under.
