The two SUVs are among the most capable off-roaders at this price point and bear a rich legacy in this space
In an exciting turn of events, the Mahindra Thar Roxx and Scorpio N will get involved with ISRO for its space exploration expeditions in Ladakh. This is a unique collaboration between ISRO and Mahindra for a prominent space analogue mission. The SUVs like Thar Roxx and Scorpio N bear a rich heritage among the off-roading community in the country. The original Thar and Scorpio have been around for close to two decades in India. Hence, these, even in their modern avatars, seem to be the perfect choices to traverse across the challenging terrains of the Himalayas. Here are the details.
Mahindra Thar Roxx, Scorpio N in Ladakh for ISRO’s Mission
Mahindra has partnered with Protoplanet, a registered space tutor with ISRO, to support a unique space analogue mission in Ladakh. The mission will take place at the Himalayan Outpost for Planetary Exploration (HOPE), a remote base that simulates conditions on the Moon and Mars. At this location, ISRO will carry out India’s first human isolation study for future space missions. This means selected participants will live in isolated conditions to study how humans might cope on other planets. Two major expeditions are planned as part of this project.
They are called “Spaceward Bound India 2025” and “Between Two Worlds 2025”. Scientists from around the world – including planetary researchers and space biologists – will take part in the mission. Mahindra’s Thar ROXX and Scorpio N vehicles will help move people and supplies across the rough terrain of Ladakh. These vehicles will be essential in making sure everything runs smoothly in the harsh environment. This mission blends science, engineering, and exploration. It also shows how rugged vehicles can support scientific research in extreme conditions. The project is an important step as India prepares for future Moon and Mars missions.
My View
It is quite common for carmakers to collaborate with varied companies and industries, generally, to promote their vehicles and highlight their capabilities. However, to be engaged with and support ISRO in the treacherous terrains of Ladakh has to be a moment of pride for Mahindra. That is why it has sent its most capable SUVs to accomplish this mission. More details about how the mission went will emerge in the coming days.
