The northern regions of India have some of the highest motorable passes on the planet

In a rather impressive feat, a Mahindra XEV 9e owner was able to drive his EV from Manali to Shinku La on a single charge. That is immensely monumental since the pass is situated at an altitude of 16,702 ft (5,091 m) above sea level. We know that EVs possess instant torque, which helps them accelerate strongly irrespective of the slope. However, in such conditions, along with low temperatures, the battery discharge is much faster. Hence, this can become tricky really fast.

This post stems from mr.dvvlogs on Instagram. The visuals capture a neatly crafted video of the entire route from Manali to Shinku La with the Mahindra XEV 9e. The owner claims that there were no charging stops throughout this journey. He shares photos and glimpses of the treacherous terrains in some parts of the road. In fact, at some places, there was no road, but just gravel and water streams. We know that this is one of the most challenging road surfaces on this trail in the Himalayas.

The total distance between Manali and the Shinku La top is around 140 km. Therefore, the round trip is around 280 km. However, it is not a perfect highway like you would find in the plain regions of our country. The high altitude, low temperatures, the winding roads, the hairpin bends, the slopes and worn-out tracks make it extremely challenging for an EV to perform anywhere close to its full potential. Still, the EV was able to do the round trip without any worries. That is a testament to the prowess of the electric SUV from the Indian automobile giant.

Specs

The Mahindra XEV 9e is based on the bespoke INGLO platform for Indian, as well as international markets. There are two battery packs on offer –  79 kWh and 59 kWh. Mahindra claims a range of 656 km and 542 km on a single charge, respectively. Similarly, the power and torque figures are 286 hp and 380 Nm with the larger battery and 231 hp and 380 Nm with the small battery. Using a 175 kW DC fast charger, the battery can be juiced up from 20% to 80% in a matter of 20 minutes. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h comes up in a mere 6.8 seconds. The prices range from Rs 21.90 lakh to Rs 30.50 lakh, ex-showroom.
